Crawford Gordon

Funeral services for Crawford "Crow" Gordon, 96 year old Kaycee resident who passed away quietly Monday afternoon at his ranch home west of Kaycee, will be held Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the Harold Jarrard Park Building in Jaycee with Reverends Carole Buckingham and Diane Herring officiating. A private family Eucharist will be held earlier that day at the Episcopal Church in Kaycee. A reception will follow the funeral at the Harold Jarrard Park Building. Private family interment will be held. Donations in Mr. Gordons memory may be made to the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo in care of the Harness Funeral Home, who are in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left on line at www.harnessfuneralhome.com. Crawford Gordon was born on August 25, 1917 in Lincoln, Massachusetts to Donald and Louise Gordon. He grew up on Drumlin Farm in Lincoln, Mass and went to Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Mass. graduating in 1935. After high school he attended Harvard University where he graduated in 1939 with a degree in Economics. In 1932 he came to the CM Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming where he became cowboy and developed a lifelong love of rodeo including winning the Wild Cow Milking at the Johnson County Fair and Rodeo in 1953 and later 3rd place in the Steer Roping at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 1968. He served his country after joining the American Field Service as an ambulance driver in North Africa and Europe in WWII. He was married on October 27, 1945 at the First Unitarian Church of Kennebunk, Maine to Kay Andrews and they made their home in Boston, Mass for a time. In 1947, Crow and Kay moved to their ranch in Kaycee. Kay passed away in July of 1995 and Crow continued living on the ranch in Kaycee. He was married in 1998 to Loie Shethar Smith and they made their home on the Gordon Ranch west of Kaycee. He was a member of the River Club of New York, the River Club of Kennebunk Port, Maine, the Somerset Club of Boston. He was a member of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and a life time member of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He was a member of the Johnson County Health Care Board of Directors for many years, and served on the Johnson County Joint Powers Board, the North Fork Water Users Association, and the Johnson County School Board. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. He enjoyed skiing, loved his family and was involved in Broadway shows. Above all he loved opera, his ranch, good horses, a nd rodeo. He was very generous and supportive of the community, cherished Wyoming her people and her character. He is survived by one daughter, Valerie Gordon-Johnson and husband, Doug of New York City and Hawaii; one son Mark Gordon and wife, Jennie of Buffalo, a stepdaughter Pam Jackson of Tucson, and stepson Spencer Smith and wife, Pam of Seattle; and seven grandchildren: Bea and Anne Gordon, Aaron and Spencer Young, and Grant, Marc, and Alex Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jean and both of his wives.
