He attended Phillips Andover Academy followed by Harvard University and Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr.Kendrick was a brilliant diagnostician and a man of great compassion who worked tirelessly for his patients. He was so proud of his children and loved to talk about upcoming fishing trips on Martha´s Vineyard, I hope the sun is shining on him today and the stripers and cod are biting!

I just did a Google search and sadly found out that Dr. Kendrick has passed away. I went to see Dr. Kendrick in my early years. I had a heart valve issue, and remember Dr. Kendrick not only giving me my initial diagnosis, but also being so attentive during my visits. I appreciated his concern as he educated me on how to handle my health going forward to include pregnancy and dental issues that I had to pay attention to. He went above and beyond... And his advice was always a mantra for me going forward in my years. The medical community has lost a great man however he leaves his legacy in all those he cared for. I am greatfull and thankful that he was my doctor. My sincere condolences to his family.

When I was a kid in the 80’s and early 90’s I was close friends with Marvin’s son Jeff. We would go to baseball and hockey camp together during the summers and always have weekend sleepovers. I found Marvin so unique because when Jeff and I would go downstairs in the middle of the night after playing Nintendo, Marvin was usually awake; either playing some grandiose piece of classical music on the piano, watching a scary movie on tv, or greeting us with midnight takeout from Chili’s. He was constantly working or on his way to work and would always greet me with his unforgettable kindness and welcome me like part of the family.

I just found out that Dr. Kendrick passed in 2016. I am really sorry to hear that. He was my doctor and cardiologist for over 20 years while I lived in Westford and North Andover, Mass. I have never met a doctor so intelligent, kind, caring, compassionate and dedicated as Dr. Kendrick. I used to tell him that he was a "Dinosaur Doctor" because there was no other doctor like him. My husband and I had many conversations with him. We always talked about our children. He was very proud of his son and daughter. He was not just a doctor but a friend. He will never be forgotten by those who knew him and loved him.
He was so smart at diagnosing what was wrong with you. One time, I didn't feel so good and he told me to come right in. He diagnosed me immediately as being totally dehydrated and without telling me called for a stretcher to bring me to the hospital room he had gotten for me. I had one iv after another to save my life and stabilize my blood pressure. Thanks to Dr. Kendrick I didn't die that day.
My sincere condolences to his wife, whom I met several times helping at the office and children, specially Julia whom I considered a friend.

Sincerely,
Anna Leahan (formerly Oliver)

Marvin Kendrick was my primary doctor, cardiologist, employer, and good friend. I couldn't imagine a world without him. His sudden decline was devastating and heart breaking. He was the best doctor any one could ever dream to have. His dedication, passion, relentlessness for diagnosing, sense of humor, his sharing of his thoughts, his love for the arts, and most of all his friendship. I always felt safe and assured in his care and miss him now and will always keep his memory in my heart. My sincere condolences to the family, his wife, Kathleen, daughter Julia, sons Andrew and Jeffrey.

I was stunned to receive a letter from Dr. Kendrick's wife today - shocked, in fact. There may never be a more caring and concerned physician that this man. I have been a patient for over twenty years, and had my annual check-up in May.

We would have great conversations about politics, the ACA, our families and business - he always took the time to make his patients comfortable and answered all their questions and concerns.

He will always be remembered as a Doctor's doctor - and his work and patient care are legendary at Emerson Hospital.

I will have many great memories of his care and concern.

My sincere condolences to the Kendrick family - you blessed us all by letting him take care of us through the years. May he rest in eternal peace and rewarded for his dedication to his family and patients.

Our family had the pleasure of getting to know Marvin in the 60's when we rented in Blacksmith Valley below and to the left of the Robinson house - everything was below that house - and played at the Chilmark Community Center. About 26 years ago as I walked the dock in Menemsha, I recognized Marvin as he came into the harbor from a day on the water with his family and had the opportunity to talk with him for a few minutes. On behalf of the Porter family I send our condolences.

Dr Kendrick was my PCP for 8 years, and I was shocked to hear about his sudden passing away. I met him a week before in September during my annual check up and always looked forward meeting him and sometimes, waited an hr since he always addressed his patients concerns in detail. A very good man, smiling and we chatted about stocks, politics.. You will be missed. God Bless

I was very saddened to learn of Dr Kendrick's passing. He was my cardiologist and a wonderful man. Kind and very intelligent with a wide range of interests, I always looked forward to my appointments with him. We discussed sports and the stock market and joked about meeting for an ice cream at Ericssons, since we both lived in close vicinity. My thoughts and prayers to his family. If the world had more people like Dr Kendrick, it would be a much better place.

October 5, 2016

I remember when I first started working at Emerson Hospital and met Dr, Kendrick, it was around midnight and he had fallen asleep at the computer. I nudged him awake and off he went to see a patient - it was only when I got to know him better that I realized it might have been the only 10 minutes of sleep he got that night!

It was always such a pleasure to see him. His kindness and knowledge knew no bounds. I imagined I could have opened an encyclopedia to any page, pointed to any subject and he would tell a fascinating story about that subject, weaving in history, music, art and literature.

I saw him a few weeks ago and as he weaved another one of his stories and was walking away, I told him he had a beautiful mind - he raised his hand in the air and headed off to see his next patient.

I can't imagine Emerson Hospital without him and send my deepest condolences to his Family on your profound loss. It was a blessing just to know him.

Sincerely,

I am stunned and sadden to hear of the passing of Dr. Marvin Kendrick who had been my physician/cardiologist for over twenty years. My late father was one of Dr.Kendrick's first patients when he began his private practice in Concord.
Dr. Kendrick was a brilliant modern day cardiologist from the old school of family medicine.

My condolences, prayers, and sympathy to the good doctor's family.

September 30, 2016

Dear Marvin,

I sense that your [now], beautiful spirit continues to be with all of those individuals to whom you touched; primarily, your family, your patients, among others, along with those employed at Emerson Hospital.

Words are not adequate enough to truly express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your tireless efforts in caring for my beloved husband, Don. You gave him hope when their wasn't anymore to give. You quietly respected his "thoughts" when he could no longer speak them but was only able to point out letters to laboriously spell words. You made yourself "present" at any hour day or night numerous times when Don was admitted via the E.R...yes, for 5 long years.

You were many things to many people, but to me, you were the quiet "beacon" our family counted on and trusted year in and year out...we all thank you for your dedication as a trusted doctor.

As a "seasoned" health care professional, I realize that the care which you so unselfishly administered was continually above and beyond the professional standards of today. You took the time to listen and carefully analyse the 'chief complaint'.
No one person in the waiting area ever complained as you flew past us to an emergency saying, "I"ll be right back"...we would smile to each other and say, "Hey, that could be one of us that he is running to to save."

We have not only lost a great doctor, but also an understanding friend who listened and gave you his undivided attention...once he was back from the emergency.

Although I miss you dearly, I know where you are when I need to get in touch with you, Please say "hello" to Don...he will especially love to talk history and politics with you.

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers at this time to your wife and family for their loss.
Emerson Hospital will have a lasting void without you, so plan to visit it frequently.

Respectfully,
Sally Brennan-Hodges, R.N.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Dr Kendrick many years ago when I worked at Emerson. I loved listening to his stories about his fishing trips or trips to NYC. He was such a brilliant man and I learned a lot from him. He will be missed by his patients and staff at Emerson.

September 30, 2016

Dear Mrs. Kendrick and Family,

My husband and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to you on the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you and thank you for your sacrifices in sharing him with us.

We were both patients of Dr. Kendrick for the past twenty-five years; an honor and a privilege, I must add. We considered him a friend, confidant and trusted physician, who on two occasions was responsible for saving both of our lives, under his care. We have always made our donation to Emerson Hospital in his honor to show our appreciation for all his efforts in our behalf and we will continue to do so, in his memory.

He was such a great listener, making you feel you had his undivided attention at all times, never rushing you, even though the waiting room was filled! His intelligence allowed for his correct diagnosis time after time, and if he didn't have the answer right away, he spared no expense getting to the bottom of the issue, requesting tests or referring you to other hospitals, as he felt was needed. And he always stayed involved. It was obvious that this was not just his profession; it was his calling. He was such a dedicated physician!

He had a fantastic memory for details regarding our family and work and he made sure this conversation took place during all visits. And at the end of each visit, Dr. Kendrick would always say " very good, very good." We will miss him, so!

When I think of Dr. Kendrick's passing, I am struck by how our next doctor will have huge shoes to fill since we will be looking for the same fine qualities we have known from your loved one for the last twenty five years.

I believe this Ralph Waldo Emerson poem is most appropriate when speaking of Dr. Marvin Kendrick:

" To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics, and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. That is to have succeeded."

May God grant him eternal rest; he has certainly earned it.
We will miss him!
Gratefully yours,
Karen and Jack Green

Dear Kendrick Family,
Dr Kendrick was ever-present at Emerson Hospital (literally day and night). Many of his patients told me they would wait for hours to see him at their appointment, but they understood it meant someone else needed him more at that moment - and respected and admired him for his commitment. They knew he would be there for them if they needed him in the same way. I myself was amazed at his resilience - one of the few among us who never complained about our choice of careers or the long days. Furthermore, I honestly never heard him utter an unkind word about a patient, family member, or clinical colleague. Truly a wonder!

My earliest memory of Dr. Kendrick is many years ago an evening in Cardiac Care Unit he walked in exclaiming "oh good, the A team is here!" with Reggie Molinaro and I working. He respected the nurses and they in turn respected him. He was a shining example of "it takes a team to help the patient". He gave lectures for over 30 years to the cardiac rehab program patients every three months on stress physiology and the heart and always ended with the Serenity Prayer! Many patients have told me "Doctor Kendrick saved my life!" He was a brilliant man and in meetings we always could count on him to give the latest cardiac research study data (with exact sources noted). He told me once "reading EKG's is like ready poetry!" He was always kind and thoughtful, taking time to listen and care. We will all miss him in cardiac rehab and want his family and friends to know how wonderful he was to so many people.

To the Kendrick Family,
I'd like to send my deepest sympathies to you all at this time. I worked with Dr. Kendrick for the last 5 years and I can say without hesitation he has always been my favorite doctor to work with. No matter what time of the night it was he would come on the unit with a smile, saying hello to each person working. Staff looked forward to his visits. He always made time to ask me how I was and how I was transitioning from the TCU to N6. He was not only a professional but deeply cared about his co-workers. He was always so easy to approach to ask questions, he was an open book and loved to help nurses learn. Dr. Kendrick will be missed daily at Emerson Hospital, I'll always think of him when I use the saying "Right-o".

So saddened to learn of Dr Kendricks passing. He always asked me about my family and remembered every detail. When my husband was ill, he didn't stop until midnight when he got the answer. When no one would operate on my dad he went to great lengths to find him a surgeon at MGH saving his life. No doctor will ever replace his compassion, caring and passion for taking care of people. Such an honor to know and work with Dr. Kendrick for many years. I especially loved the stories he would tell us of his children and how proud he was of them all. His imitation of his son coming out on a stage to play at a heavy metal concert was epic!
I will miss our dear doctor and will cherish all the memories I have. Just a short while ago, I asked him when he was going to get out to fish at the Vineyard. He said he needed to be at the hospital with his patients. God love him. And God Bless Marvin's family. He loved you very much and it showed.

Dr. Marvin was my Primary Care Physician for about five years. He suffered my frequent visits for injuries and internal problems with kindness, a smile and grace. He was a truly indomitable medical detective: he never stopped until he found the root of a patient's issue. At almost every visit -- the two of us having learned that we shared an intense interest in English literature -- we swapped quotations from the best and most complex poets of the language.

He was a great and beloved Physician and human being. His spirit will continue to wander the halls at Emerson seeking those in need of his ministrations. He will remain in my heart always, as will his family. This world is indeed much the poorer for this loss.

Dr. Kendrick will always be remembered as my favorite doctor. Working 3-11p we got to know him well, and learn of his love for movies, his fishing stories and the way he knew everything about his patients. He loved caring for them. Years later, in a different part of Emerson I cared for his patients. He remembered me, asking about my girls, etc. I was amazed. And just last Fall I had the pleasure of working very closely with him and even getting to know his wife. That was one of my most favorite times of being a nurse at Emerson. As I told him then, it was most sincerely my pleasure working with you dear Doctor... You are a legend at Emerson and will never be replaced. A gentleman, compassionate and caring. You are already greatly missed.
Most sincerely,
Dawn Olsen, RN Emerson Home Care

My heartfelt sympathies to the Kendrick family.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dr. Kendrick for the past 10 years. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

He was always kind, compassionate and dedicated to his patients and all of the people he worked with. I have never heard him say a cross word to anyone. He was an amazing Physician and man. His patients loved him, but everyone else did too.

I will truly miss seeing him roaming the halls of the hospital with a soda bottle in his lab coat pocket.

Sincerely,
Amy Price

My husband, Glenn was a patient of Dr. Kendrick's.He was the nicest doctor/person. so caring and so thoughtful. Glenn always had such good conversations with him about politics.sports etc. I also went to a few appointments with Glenn and I could not believe this man was a workaholic.so dedicated to his patients, their families, the hospital and his staff. sometimes, we wait hours to see him. but, it was worth it. believe me.. we will truly miss him.

Dr Kendrick was an amazing man to work with, especially at night in the ICU. He loved his work and was there for all patients and staff. He always had time to sit and talk and make everyone feel special. One night, he saved my life, as I became ill with a very low heart rate. Dr Kendrick you are my hero!
