David McElroy Obituary

David L. McElroy, a long term resident of the Linden Ponds community in Hingham, passed away September 28, 2017. A native of Brookline, Dave and his wife Fran previously resided in Newton and Pocasset. During World War II, he served as a Yeoman 3rd Class in the U.S. Coast Guard. In his career as a master grocer and food product broker, he introduced many new food products to the New England region. But his lifelong passion was charity fund raising and volunteering. He offered a hand over the years to numerous organizations, including Shriners Hospital, the Old North Church, and the Franconia New Hampshire Fire Department. Son of the late Joseph and Eileen (Frazier) McElroy, he was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Frances M. (Zelent) McElroy and was predeceased by 7 siblings. Survived by sister Helen McIntosh of Nokomis, FL., and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to be held at Linden Ponds at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Linden Ponds Pastoral Ministries, 300 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA 02043.
