This is heartbreaking. My deepest sympathy to the Shaw family.
The imprint of Mike in my mind's eye embodies kindness, generosity of spirit and a distinctly gentle nature. I hadn't known him long, and it wasn't long enough.
I wish you peace and light.

Susan, Mike, Danielle, and Jessica: My deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved Michael. I heard the news of his passing while I was sitting in my classroom at school and immediately 'teared up,' which doesnt happen to me very often...luckily I hid my tears from the students (haha). I think Mikey's death floored me so much because HE (along with YOU Danielle) and all the other "Foundry Street Michaels" etc represented for me--and I think all of us--that one and only truly innocent time in our lives; it represented that brief slice of childhood joy, long before the trials and tribulations of school, "cliques," puberty, heartbreak, and adolescence reared their ugly heads. The memories I have of Mikey are memories of sledding down the hilll in front of your house....riding 'big wheels' down your long driveway (Mikey always had the fastest one and I was jealous), playing with his GI Joe aircraft carrier (any kid in the 80s who had this was 'the man!', and running around the backyard with Brandy. True,, all little kids squabble and have their arguments, but the time we all spent together was so so special--a once-in-a-lifetime experience of pure and innocent friendship....and to hear the news of Mikey's passing was just so cruel....and so raw....although I only kept touch with Mike on FB and I haven't seen him in person in years, his death reminds me of one of the most formative parts of my life. I pray for all of you to find God's tender mercy in what is surely a soul wrenching event.
With love and deepest sympathy,
Jared & Amanda Goldsmith
