John Boothroyd Obituary

John F. Boothroyd, Sr., 88, a lifelong Maynard resident, died peacefully Dec. 23, 2020, in Concord. He was the beloved husband of the late Sally Ann (Lydon), to whom he was married 61 years at the time of her passing in 2017. He was born at home in Maynard, the son of the late Harry and Mary (Dooley) Boothroyd, and is also predeceased by siblings Joseph Boothroyd, Mary Ruth Migliaccio, Reverend Mother Irene Helen Boothroyd and Rita LeSage. Mr. Boothroyd is survived by his 4 children, John Boothroyd Jr and wife Nancy, Thomas Boothroyd, Maureen Cassidy and husband Edward Morandi Jr., and Michael Boothroyd and husband Patrick Cheng. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa, Jessica, Caroline, Kristopher, William, Michael; several great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. A graduate of Maynard High School with the Class of 1949, Mr. Boothroyd served honorably in the US Army stationed in France and Germany during the Korean War. He was employed in the electronics industry with GenRad and Baird-Atomic before retiring. He then worked part-time at Aubuchon Hardware in Maynard for many years. Mr. Boothroyd was lifelong Ham Radio operator, WB1CAT, KC1WA. He participated in Maynard's community theatre and volunteered at Boy Scout Troop 1 for many years. He loved all New England sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox, and was a fixture in his neighborhood walking his beloved Shelties, Penny and Scout. His greatest joy was spending time with Sally, especially in Maine or on the Cape. Due to pandemic restrictions, graveside services in Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard, are private. So sorry for your loss, I have known your dad throughout the years, he was a kind gentle man, it was a honer to take care of him, he would always ask "what's up in Maynard", we would talk of times in Maynard, thoughts are with you all, especially Maureen, who made sure he had the best shirts ever, to burgers which he enjoyed and beautiful balloon arrangements, he looked forward to your visits, I will greatly miss him, prayers for you all
