Miriam Trimble Obituary

Miriam Sarvela Trimble, 94, of Simsbury, Connecticut, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at McLean in Simsbury. She was born November 5, 1921, in Maynard, daughter of the late Everett T. and Alma M. (Lampinen) Sarvela, and was raised on her familys farm there. She was a Registered Nurse, earning her R.N. at Memorial Hospital in Boston. She went on to be a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II, serving in the Pacific, and was on the first plane bringing medical assistance into Hiroshima after the atomic bomb. Miriam later moved to Torrington, Connecticut, where she raised her family and remained until her move to McLean. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Torringtons Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for 20 years, and after her retirement was an active member of the Sullivan Senior Center. Miriam loved spending time with her friends and family, who were very important to her, and especially enjoyed and always looked forward to visiting with her grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic fan of UConn Huskies womens basketball. She enjoyed being outdoors, and often walked her neighborhood, taking in the nature around her. Miriam was an avid reader throughout her life, and also very much enjoyed the music and entertainment programs at McLean. Miriam is survived by her daughter, Joyce Trimble Gwadz and her husband Bob of Bethesda, Maryland; her son, Jim Trimble and his wife Sue of Simsbury, Connecticut; her brother, Walter Sarvela and his wife Janet of Maynard; her grandchildren, Cindy Trimble of Alexandria, Virginia, Kim Trimble of San Diego, California, and Scott Trimble, presently residing in Thailand; and nieces and nephews, Wisconsin, and Illinois. She was predeceased by three brothers, Fred Sarvela, Edwin Sam Sarvela, and Rev. William Bill Sarvela. There are no calling hours. There will be a graveside service and burial at Glenwood Cemetery in Maynard at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 24th. A memorial service will be celebrated at the First Church of Christ, Simsbury, Connecticut, at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 25th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McLean Therapeutic Recreation Fund, McLean Foundation, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury, Connecticut, is caring for the arrangements.

JIM AND JOYCE SO SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR MOM. WE WERE GREAT NEIGHBORS ON LYMAN DRIVE AND I WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR MOM. I ALWAYS REMEMBER HER BUYING CHOCOLATE COOKIES THAT SHE GAVE OUT AS OUR GANG WERE IN YOUR BACKYARD PLAYING SPORTS. NOW YOUR MOM AND MINE ARE IN HEAVEN TOGETHER TALKING ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF THE 60'S GROWING UP ON LYMAN DRIVE.

Jim so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I had the pleasure of knowing her and enjoying her sense of humor during my tenure at McLean.
