Carol Ann Downer

Carol Ann Downer, long-time Needham resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Carol was the beloved wife of the late George "Bud" Downer. Daughter of the late Ann (Tremonte) and John Stoddard. She is the cherished mother of Randy DeForest (Anne), Jeff DeForest (Delia), Pamela, Scott, Brett (Ellen), Lisa (Gary) and Keith (Tammy). Carol was loved and adored by her grandchildren; Kerry (Justin), Brittany (Andrew), Jaime (Justin), Ryan, Ashley, Jenna, Leah, Joseph (Jamie) Jonathan (Allison), Sarah (Roshan), RJ (Lashelle), Danielle, Hannah, Emma and seven great grandchildren. Carol was a treasured sister to John (Patricia), Elaine (Daniel), Sandra (James), Robert, Gerry, Ann, Thomas, Mary Ellen (Dean), Patricia (Raymond) and Denise. Carol was also a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews. Carol's early years began with her large family in East Boston. She moved to Needham in junior high and graduated from Needham High School. Carol worked within the Needham community throughout her career and finally retired as a valued and dedicated employee from Outpatient Registration at Glover Hospital. She then devoted herself full-time to the care and nurturing of all her grandchildren as their precious Grammy. Carol and Bud had many adventures together with travel, boating, friendships and siblings over the years. They had many dogs who brought joy to their lives. Carol had a great love of music with a beautiful voice. Through it all, her primary focus was always her family. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Joseph Church, 1362 Highland Ave, Needham, on Monday January 25th at 11am. Interment followed at Needham Cemetery. Strict COVID guidelines will be followed including all attendees must wear a face covering and practice proper social distancing.
