Carol Margaret Dornemann Sellman died peacefully on May 30, 2021, in the comfort of her own home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 83 years old. She was the daughter of Margaret Phillips Dornemann and Frederick Dornemann of Needham, Massachusetts. Carol attended Needham High School where she was a majorette and graduated with honors in 1955. She went on to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, where she met her future husband, John Edward Otis III, at nearby Dartmouth College. She graduated from Colby-Sawyer in 1957. After graduation, Carol was honored to be chosen as a Flight Stewardess by United Airlines. In 1959, Carol married her college sweetheart, John Otis, who had joined the Marines as a Flight Aviator and was stationed at Camp Lajeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. After service years, Carol and John moved to Basking Ridge, New Jersey where they raised their three children, John Edward Otis IV, of West Palm Beach, Florida, Gregory Alan Otis, of Naples, Florida, and Sarah Jane Otis Humphrey, of Darien, Connecticut. On October 16, 1999, Carol married Charles H. Sellman, of Mendham, New Jersey. They lived many happy years splitting their time between their residences in Basking Ridge, New Jersey and Naples, Florida. They were active and enthusiastic members of many clubs and institutions, including The Hole in the Wall Golf Club, The Naples Yacht Club, The Royal Poinciana Golf Club, The Vineyards Golf Club, The Morris County Golf Club, The Presbyterian Church of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and The Naples United Church of Christ of Naples, Florida. Carol and Charlie especially enjoyed traveling the country and abroad to visit their seemingly endless network of friends. They fondly referred to their travels as the 'C&C Adventures.' Carol loved spending time collecting masters points in competitive bridge tournaments, playing tennis, gardening, and reading. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wonderful friend whose omnipresent smile, easy laughter and joyous spirit brightened everyone's lives whom she touched. Carol is survived by her three aforementioned children, her two step sons, Frank Sellman, of Morris, Connecticut, and Jonathan Sellman of Portland, Maine, and her two siblings, Peter Dornemann of Yarmouthport, Massachusetts, and Mary Tibma, of Needham, Massachusetts. She will be dearly missed by her ten cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Otis Diacetis, Nicholas Otis, Gabrielle Otis, Jason Otis, Joannah Otis, Margaret Otis, Nicole Humphrey, Ashley Humphrey, Chloe Humphrey and Brett Humphrey, as well as her two great grandchildren, Connor Diacetis and Emily Diacetis. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Sellman, and by her sister, Julie Steck of Cleveland, Ohio. Carol is also survived by her significant other, Russell Broad, of Naples, Florida. A celebration of Carol's life will be held on July 23, 2021 at 2:00pm at the United Church of Christ, 5200 Crayton Road, Naples, Florida.
