John Creeden

John Jack Creeden, 79, of Plymouth, died July 12, 2014, at home. He was born in Brockton, Dec. 1, 1934, during the depression, yet retained fond memories of a boyhood within a close knit family at a time when ice was cut from frozen ponds and stored for summer use and boys were used to adventures with their friends. He left Brockton High School to join the U.S. Navy, serving in Korea, and continued his education throughout his life. His adult life was spent in Plymouth and he is survived by his wife and partner of 51 years, Elizabeth (Muise) Creeden; daughter, Yolanda Cotter and her husband Sam of Plymouth; son, John and his wife Eenae of Weymouth; grandson, Ethan Jack Cotter; his sisters, Shirley Burgess of Harwich and Patricia Gibbs of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He worked for the Mass. Dept. of Public Works for 38 years retiring as a tree surgeon. His life was devoted to his family and the preservation of his 17th century home known as the Churchill House. He became a respected woodworker, fashioned his own tools to reproduce moldings and beaded boards, and designed wood hinges. Each project was approached with research and care to completion, cutting trees when necessary for a support beam or to make furniture. He was a gentle man with a unique mind and wonderfully dry sense of humor. His family will miss him. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 17, from 5-7 p.m. at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at Cartmells followed by burial in Chiltonville Cemetery, Plymouth.
