Marie F. Dolci

Marie F. (Gately) (Porter) Dolci, of Plymouth, passed away on July 24, 2018, at the age of 89, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the wife of the late Valentino R. Dolci and the former wife of the late Andrew F. Porter Sr. Marie was a loving devoted mother who singularly and selflessly raised her two children, and in later years, with the help of her husband, Val. She will be sadly missed by her son, Andrew F. Porter Jr.; and by daughter, Janice (Porter) Joyce and her husband Kevin; "Nana Re" to 7 grandchildren, Steven, Kara, Corey, Holly, Kevin, Charissa and Janmarie; and affectionately "Big Nana" to 15 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. One of nine born to the late Matthew and Jesse (Cameron) Gately, Marie now joins 7 siblings of the Gately clan who have predeceased her, sisters, Alice, Teresa, and brothers, Gerard, Matthew, Allan, Thomas, and Lawrence. Marie was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Virginia Porter. She is survived by her sister, Claire Kenneally; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was born in Boston and resided in Dorchester for over 50 years before moving to Carver and Plymouth. Marie had a big heart and a gentle sweet nature with all animals. She had many pets in her lifetime and strays always seemed to find their way to her, prompting the nickname "St. Francis" from her sister Claire. She loved her soap operas. Glued to the TV, a book of crossword puzzles by her side and a crochet needle in her hand reworking stitches to perfection was a familiar sight. She liked all kinds of music. "I left my heart in San Francisco" was one of her favorite songs to sing. Known for her beautiful voice, Marie had the ability and talent to belt out the old Irish ditties with the best of them as well as bring an entire church to tears with her sweet, soothing "Ave' Maria". She had a fun-loving spirit, enjoyed a good joke and loved to sing and dance. Always the life of the party, she was able to get even the most somber room (an entire room) up on their feet singing and dancing the night away. Marie will be missed but never forgotten. Remembering to take time for fun in your lives would be a great way to celebrate her life and spirit. She would like that. Heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Golden Living/Plymouth Harborside Nursing Home for loving and caring for Marie and also the loving, compassionate volunteers of Cranberry Hospice for giving their time and talents to ensure the end of her life was peaceful and happy. A period of visitation will take place on Monday, July 30, 2018, from 4 pm to 7 p.m. at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, Plymouth. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in the Plymouth County Cemetery, South Meadow Rd., Plymouth.
