Emory Ariel Obituary

Emory David Ariel, Papa, "the Man, the Myth, the Legend", age 80, of Scituate, died in the arms of his wife Judy, in a tragic accident August 27, while on vacation in Pem-aquid Harbor, Maine. He was a beloved husband, father, Papa, veteran, fisherman, engineer, ballroom dancer, artist, chef extraordinaire, genius, and consummate problem solver who was, above all, an oldfashioned chivalrous and gentlemanly devoted family man. Deeply saddened by his death are the children he raised, Tracey Cooper (Clay) of Sagamore, Scott Ariel (Andrew) of Boston, Susan Socci (David) of Franklin, Caitlin Buron (David) of Bridgewater, Meghann Perry (Chris), of Bridgewater; grandchildren, Julia (Joe), Jared (Ashley), Shaina, Leah, Sophie, Christopher, Andrew, Matthew, Michael, CJ and Cooper. He was brother of Gail Maiocco (William) and Frederick Ariel (Linda) of Florida; predeceased by his parents, Frederick Ariel and Bessie Rolfe Ariel of Roslindale. Also missed by loving sistersinlaw, Janet Collins of Florida, Jerrilyn Viprino (George) of Harwich and Kathleen Byrne (David) of Hatchville; admired and loved by many other family members and friends from every aspect of his full and fruitful life. Em leaves his brokenhearted wife, Judy ByrneAriel. Em and Judy met in Heaven (in First Class on an airplane) while Emory was traveling for his employer, MIT Lincoln Labs, where he worked for 40 years. That Heavenly introduction led to a 36 year romance, 31 of which as a devoted married couple. A memorial service will be held September 13, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Church, 465 First Parish Road, Scituate. All are welcome. Calling hours will be held at 4 p.m. following the memorial service in the Williams Room, Barker Tavern, 21 Barker Road, Scituate. Please omit flowers and memorial gifts.

Em (fondly called Papa by our children) was a gem in many, many ways. He was one of the most humble men on the planet and had one of the kindest hearts. We are heartbroken to know that he is gone but we hold onto the hope that we will be reunited with him again in the next chapter of life...He left a beautiful imprint in our family's life and for that we are forever grateful. Sending our love to Judy and the entire family...
