Robert OBrien Obituary

Maj. Robert Francis OBrien, Jr. (RET.), 59, of Maynard, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Robert was born in Wharton, TX, the son of Robert Francis and June Marie (Kenny) OBrien. As the son of a civil engineer, he grew up overseas, going to the local schools and learning several languages. He lived with his family in Holland, France, Belgium and Italy. Robert moved to Sudbury in 1973 and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School with the class of 1975. He graduated from American University in Washington, D. C., in 1979 and went on to develop an illustrious career in the U.S. Army. He served with various units, including the 101st Airborne Division and later with Army Intelligence. He served with particular distinction in the Gulf War, where he was twice decorated for bravery under Combat and received the Bronze Star with a V for valor. He was a retired Army Major, and has lived in Maynard for the past three years. Robert is survived by a son, Cullen R. OBrien of Washington, D. C., a daughter , Alexia K. OBrien of Charlotte, NC, both children of Therese M. Boucher (OBrien) of Woodstock, MD; a brother, John K. OBrien of Sudbury, and a sister, Candace A. OBrien of Waltham. Affectionately known as Rob by a wide circle of family, friends and neighbors, he was a familiar sight when out walking his two dogs Beau and Bambi, both in Maynard and Sudbury. He is remembered for his humor, his bravery, his strength, and his unwavering love and compassion for all living things. A celebration of life service was held Saturday July 16 at 5PM at the Duckett | J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury. I was saddened to hear the new of Rob's passing. I knew him only as an aquaintence, but was always impressed by his knowledge, kindness and youthful spirit. My condolences for your loss. He will be missed.

I'm very sorry that this happened. I didn't know Robert well, but a few times each week, I'd see him walking his dogs, while I was walking mine. He was always very pleasant and personable. To his family and friends, I am very sorry for your loss.
