Herbert Place Obituary

Herbert D. "Bert" Place, 87, a life-long resident of Wayland, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded with the care and comfort of his wife Bette, at their residence in Wayland on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Born September 11, 1933, he was the son of the late John A. S. Place, Sr. and Blanche Mary (Collins) Place. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 68 years, Bette L. (Richardson) Place. He was the brother of the late Irving, Daniel, Raymond, Robert, John Place, Dorothy Lockwood and Marion Newman. Bert was beloved by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Two months after graduating from Wayland High School with the Class of 1952, he and Bette were married. He served his country proudly with honor as a Private First Class in the United States Army following the Korean Conflict. A well-known carpenter in the area, Bert was a quiet and generous man, always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors. With his expertise in painting, carpentry, and mechanics he was the go-to guy for all who reached out to him for assistance and advice. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing. Bert's wonderful sense of humor will be dearly missed, and he will be fondly remembered with love by all the lives he quietly touched. Devoted to each other Bert and Bette always enjoyed time with family, especially the children. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland. Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. His family suggests for everyone to be comfortable with their own personal decision to wear face coverings or not during visitations and the funeral service. For those who desire, memorial gifts in Bert's memory may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice. For condolences, please visit www.johncbryantfuneralhome.com.

I remember as a child, uncle Bert,
Helping my dad, build the house
On "Powers road" that we all grew
Up in. I remember bringing nails
And small pieces of wood to help
Them when I could, tools , whatever, they needed. Then many years later, uncle Bert and
Dad, built an addition onto the
House, As our family was growing!
He was my favorite uncle and
I shall never forget him!!! I
Personally have been blessed,
And I am a rich man because of
The memories I walk with of him.
