John B. Bunnell

Family and friends mourn the passing of John B. Bunnell, 87, who passed away on June 24, 2016 in Woburn, MA. surrounded by family and friends. A native of Springfield, New Jersey and longtime resident of Wayland, Massachusetts, John was one of two children to Richard Tice Bunnell and Dorothy Alice Bunnell, both lifelong residents of New Jersey. John graduated from Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield in 1947 where he excelled both as an athlete and a student, being honored by the school as athlete of the decade for the 1940s. John attended Princeton University where he distinguished himself as a starting member of the nationally ranked football team, graduating in 1951. After several years working as an engineer, John enrolled at Harvard Business School, receiving his MBA in 1959. While studying at Harvard, John met his future spouse, Rosamond Homer. They married in 1959 and moved to Wayland in 1961 where they raised four children; Elizabeth, Richard, Timothy and Peter, all of whom attended Wayland High School. John remained in Wayland for the next fifty-five years, becoming a beloved grandfather to six grandchildren and founding a small company, Centennial Sales, that he ran for over twenty years from his office in Wayland Center. John was a devoted Boston sports fan and loved crossword puzzles, music, politics and the Jersey Shore, where he spent nearly every summer of his life. He found his greatest passion however, in raising his children and derived his greatest joy from his role as a father. He is survived by his three sons, Richard T. Bunnell of Guangzhou, China, Timothy Bunnell of New York, NY and Peter Bunnell of Woburn, MA. A memorial service will be held at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland at 1:00 pm, July 16th.
