Samuel Bush Obituary

Samuel Dacre Bush IV A kind and gentle soul, Sam Bush left this life on December 28, 2020, aged 66. Born and raised in Weston, Sam went to Meadowbrook and Rivers, as well as the Weston Public Schools. He was a 1972 graduate of Weston High School and attended Alfred University in NY and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Sam was a gifted musician, artist and photographer. He worked for many years at the Fernald State School and at Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham, then at Medfield State Hospital, providing direct patient care and leading music therapy groups. Sam was the son of Samuel Dacre Bush III and Rosalind Stark Bush. He had three older sisters, Rosalind, Mary and Anne. Along with their numerous Baker, Bush, French and Stark cousins, they spent many happy summers in York Harbor, Maine, near their beloved grandparents Mary Leith Stark and Dudley Scott Stark, Episcopal Bishop of Rochester NY. Beset with serious health issues throughout his adult life, Sam suffered greatly but never complained. He is survived by his wife Isabella Podgorski Jancourtz, his step-son Joshua M. Jancourtz and family of Mountainside NJ, his sister Mary B. Modica of Somers NY, his brother-in-law James Drapeau and family of Ayer MA, his half-brother Peter Dacre Bush and family of Loudon NH, and his step- mother Emily Bush Jones of New London NH, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sams sisters Anne B. Drapeau and Rosalind Scott Bush predeceased him. Although seldom seen in recent years, Sam was a life-long member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and had been on the prayer list for some time. Because of the pandemic, there will be a graveside service for Sam at Linwood in the spring. 'Eternal rest grant unto Sam, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.'

My deepest sympathy to Sams family and to his wife Izabella.
I was very saddened to hear, through Sams wife, that Sam had passed.
Sam and I met many years before, in a jazz band that was put together at "The Music Workshop" in Belmont Mass.
We were the 2 guitar players in the band. We hit it off and stayed friends from then on. I have great memories of us there, during recording sessions, really diggin' each others SOLOS! We used to jam at Sams place out in Weston to.
Those were good times I will not forget!
Sam had a certain style to his playing that really grabbed me, like a kind of funky feel! I used to tell him that I stole some of his licks!
I did to! I still use them today!
2 of our favorite "go to" tunes, to jam on, were,
"MR- PC" and "SO WHAT",

By Trane and Miles, respectively.

Sam was just a laid back, reserved person, like myself. Just really cool! What can I say Sam....I miss ya' man. Thanks for your friendship, for your kindness, and for my fond memories! And thanks again for letting me steal your licks!
Save me a place on the bandstand Sam, we still have more tunes to play someday!
God bless my friend.
Peace forever.
JOE DEFELICE.
