Arthur Roy Obituary

Arthur Leonard Roy, born June 18, 1932 in Rumford, Maine, died peacefully on December 31, 2014 in Carson, California with Raquel, his wife of 8 years by his side. Arthur is survived by his two sons, John Arthur Roy of Wallingford, Connecticut, wife Darcie and children Jack and Krissy; Alan L. Roy of Natick, Massachusetts, wife Lori and children Cody and Jake. He leaves a brother, Real O. Roy of Wellesley, Massachusetts, wife Sheila and many loving nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 38 years Joan (Pelletier) Roy of Wellesley, Massachusetts and his parents Marie Louise (Laneuville) and Omer A. Roy of Rumford Maine, his brother Joseph Laurent Roy of Houma Louisiana, and his brother Norman, of Rumford, Maine, a United Stated Marine, who died in Iwo Jima, 1945, at age 18. From his lively boyhood in Rumford, Arthur was launched to see the world, first at a boys school in Canada. He attended Boston University before moving to Alaska with the Army. There he built homes, hunted, and fished. After 17 years, he returned to Boston, married and settled in Wellesley, Massachusetts where he founded, owned and operated the Gillian Construction Company, a home construction and remodeling business. More recently he visited many countries, making friends across the globe. Arthurs goal was accomplished, he visited every continent. Arthur will be remembered as a friend to all. Whether dropping in for coffee with friends or meeting new friends in exotic lands, his friend- liness was tireless and his friendship sincere. His endless postcards told the story. Always positive, Arthur rarely complained and could see the bright side of any setback. His spirit and upbeat demeanor will be missed by all who knew him. A service to celebrate Arthurs life will be held on Saturday June 20th at 9:00am at St Paul's Catholic Church 502 Washington St Wellesley, MA www.stpaulwellesley.com

Cousin Arthur as we knew him was a much loved visitor to our home when I was growing up. A consummate story teller of exotic adventurers both here and abroad. I loved him and respected him, in recent years I have come to know his son John who true to his dad's form is also a fabulous guy with a great family, keep that Roy spirit moving forward. May you truly rest in Peace.

Arthur, you welcomed me to the family in 1966 when you and I were young, 24 and 32. You made it so easy to love you. Through all these years and all of the happy days, changes and challenges, you never wavered in your loyalty and joyful spirit. Even when last we met and hugged, you greeted me like that 24 year old. I will always think of you as one happy hopeful 32 year old. Rest now in peace, dear brother-in-law. You have left a wonderful legacy in those fabulous sons and your spirit and energy carries on. Love to you, always, Sheila
