Edith Curry Obituary

Edith Alberta "Berta" Curry Age 90, died Saturday, January 30, 2010. She was Born July 10, 1919 in Olean, NY, daughter of the late Edward A. and Myra Cory Guenter. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Frederick Curry and a brother, Dr. Fritz E. Guenter. Berta is survived by a daughter, Joanna L. (John) Dougherty of Murrysville; three grandchildren; Kathleen A. Dougherty of Pittsburgh, Matthew J. (Jennifer) Dougherty of Manor and Laura M. Dougherty of Murrysville; 2 great grandchildren; Chyler and Piper Kolachinski and 6 nieces and nephews; Gail (Richard) Hanson, Cory (Sandra) Guenter, Gwen (Robert) Crandell, Dr. Cris Guenter, Alan (Barbara) Guenter and Dr. Scot Guenter. Berta graduated from Ypsilanti State Teacher's College and was a teacher in Eldred, PA. She joined the war effort at the Curtiss Wright Airplane factory in Buffalo, NY. After she married Roger in 1944, she taught public school while he was stationed in the service in Pensacola, FL. Berta and Roger moved to Newton, MA and then to Wellesley, MA where they spent most of their lives. While in Wellesley, Berta was on the Advisory Committee to the Selectmen in the local town government. She also had the pleasure during her life of traveling extensively internationally. After Roger died, she moved to Export, PA and became a Docent at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, PA. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, Murrysville. If desired, memorials may be made to the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg, PA. 15601
