Nancy Stutz Obituary
Nancy Sturman Stutz, 87, former resident of Weston MA for over 40 years, died peacefully in her home in Wayland MA on September 2, 2012. She was born October 20, 1924 in Austin MN to Everett and Hannah (Harries) Sturman. The family moved to Grosse Pointe, MI in 1931. After graduating from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs NY, Nancy moved to Boston where she met and married her late husband Rolf Stutz, originally from Cologne Germany, and in 1948 they moved to Weston to build a home and start a family. In addition to raising four children, Nancy was a passionate volunteer for the Community Music Center of Boston and the League of Women Voters. She helped organize and co-found the Jericho Forest Pony Club and volunteered as secretary of the 1747 Farm Horse Show in Weston for several years. She was an avid tennis player and participated in numerous leagues and competitions, later garnishing many trophies and awards in Les Grand Dame tournaments throughout the country. A voracious reader, Nancy founded one of the first womens book clubs in Weston that continues to meet today. Nancy frequented the Boston Symphony and was a member of the Chilton Club. Fondly referred to as Stutz Home Industries, her knitting, sewing, needlepoint, and quilting accomplishments were prolific and admired by all. Nancy is survived by three daughters, Ann Stutz Chapman of Savannah GA, Hannah Stutz of Sudbury MA, Lisa Stutz Baugh of Wellington FL; three grandchildren, Pieter Van Winkle of Durango CO, Hannah Van Winkle of Brooklyn NY, and CJ Cormier of Swampscott MA; one great grandson, Jackson Cormier of Swampscott MA, and one daughter-in-law, Cornelia Green Stutz of Cambridge and Marblehead MA. She was preceded in death by her husband Rolf Stutz, their son Rolf Sturman Stutz of Cambridge and Marblehead MA, and her brother Robert Sturman of Grosse Pointe MI. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at The Wayside Inn, Sudbury MA on October 12, 2012, 12:00pm-4:00pm where everyone is encouraged to share stories and memories of Nancy.
