Donald John Persely

Summerfield, FL - Donald John Persely, age 66, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away November 21. Don was the beloved son of the late John D. Persely and Mary S. Persely. He was also the loving brother of Susan M. Amberger, brother-in-law of Andrew J. Amberger, and uncle/godfather of Briana Amberger, whom he held close to his heart. On June 24, 1990 Don married Mary Starr in Poughkeepsie, NY, and she continues living in Florida.

He is also survived by many cousins. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 10, 1949, Don attended Hyde Park schools. He was a 1967 graduate of FDR High School as well as Dutchess Community College. He excelled in his artistic skills at both schools, and also was the president of the Russian Language Club at DCC. Don was an employee for many years in management of Production Inventory Control at the former Standard Gage (alongside his father John), as well as Schatz Federal Bearing, both in Poughkeepsie, NY. After his move to Florida, he was employed for 10 years at The Villages Golf Carts. He retired last year, 2014. Don was a musician for many years as a bass guitarist. He played by ear so sheet music was never required. He was in The Revells for a number of years, as well as Braid and The Country Cousins, just to name a few. Don and his wife were fortunate enough to do some extensive traveling, including cruising the Danube and visiting Bali, Indonesia, living life to its fullest. Don will be deeply missed by family and friends.
