Paul Lindstrom Obituary

Paul Leon Lindstrom 86, a loving husband, father, grandfather and renowned artist, died Monday, Oct.25, at Webster Manor Rehab Center in Webster. A strong, gentle and loving person he leaves his wife of 65 years, Harriette (MacLeod) Lindstrom; his sons, Paul, Richard and his wife Carmen, David and his wife Mary, Mark and sweetheart Jodi, Christopher and his wife Dawn, Eric and his wife Karen; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and beloved sister Virginia Lott. Born and raised in Cambridge he first developed his love for drawing at the age of 6. He was a graduate of Rindge Tech HS and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. While stationed in Calcutta he collected a series of street life photos that inspired several future great works. He returned to the U.S. in 1946, married his sweetheart Harriette MacLeod and started a family. They had lived in Weymouth for 55 years. In 1946 Paul enrolled in the Cambridge School of Design under the direction of Paul Williams. Following graduation in 1948, he moved to Washington DC, where he tried his hand at commercial art but ultimately rejected it, returning to Massachusetts where he worked in plumbing supply and retail to support his growing family. In 1990 he retired from Boston University, a position he accepted in 1970 to be near his sons who were attending school and playing football for the Terriers. Three of his boys were drafted into the NFL. Paul Lindstrom was a prolific lifelong painter and member of the Weymouth and Quincy Art Associations where many of his paintings were recognized for excellence. In 2000 son Christopher honored his Dad by establishing The Webster Gallery in Webster, MA that now houses more than 300 of Lindstrom's works. Many of these paintings can be viewed at www.Lindstromfineart.com. His love, caring, attention and talent will be missed by his family and friends and now enjoyed by God. I couldn't have asked for a more loving, gentle or talented grandfather. He made the best pancakes and fried eggs and always snuck quarters to my brother and I when we left his house as children. He always had a hug and smooch for us. He's in heaven now with a towel over one shoulder and a paint brush in his hand painting the sky.

My thoughts are to your family. So very sorry to hear of Paul's passing, he was a very nice gentleman who I got to know as a fellow patient at DaVita. I know he was well liked by all the patients and staff. My mother often passed on you prayers to me while I was so very ill and wanted you to know how much they were appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mrs Lindstrom and you family.

To the Lindstrom family,
My family and I want to extend to you our deepest sympathies on the passing of Paul. I got to know Paul at Davita and he quickly became someone very special to me. He would often ask about my football player son and give me small memorabelia of the Kansas City Chiefs that my son and I so very much appreciated. I only knew Paul for a short time but his kindness, generosity and caring nature were quite apparant the moment I met him. I consider myself lucky to have known him even if only for a short while and will miss him dearly. Your family is in our thoughts and our prayers.
