Misty Schwartzman Obituary
Misty (Mistovich) Schwartzman, a Winchester resident for 31 years, passed away peace- fully at age 88 surrounded by family in her daughters home in Ellicott City, Maryland. Beloved wife of the late Carl T. Schwartzman and loving mother of Stephanie Costello and her husband Sean of Maryland, Mark of New York and Greece, Mica Breen and her husband Chuck of Nor- folk and Bruce and his wife Shauna of Winchester. Cherished grandmother of Stephanies children: Benjamin 22, Kevin 20, Gregory 18, and Eliana 14 and Micas three boys: Mitch 16, Cole 16 and Troy 13. Misty, whose five siblings predecease her, leaves several nieces and nephews. Misty was ahead of her time. In 1958, she was one of the first two women to ever receive a Masters degree in Psychology from Brandeis University, where she was proud to acknowledge that she was a graduate student of Abraham Maslow. Misty went on to marry the man of my dreams, have four children and direct the Title I English Program at Winchesters McCall and Lynch Junior High School from 1974-1982. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for dozens of Winchesters children. Ever passionate about community service, Misty also ran two successful campaigns for town Selectmen, performed in the Winton Club shows and was an active member of the Woburn Council of Social Concern. Friends, work colleagues, childrens friends and neighbors, however, will remember Misty most for the parties and gatherings she and Carl hosted at their cherished home on Black Horse Terrace. If you knew Misty, you most likely enjoyed a shish-kebab or beverage among her magnificent plants and wind chimes on her screened-in porch where she held court for over 30 glorious summers! A celebration to honor Mistys life was held in Maryland where she spent the last 13 years of her life cared for by Stephanies entire family.
