Richard Davis Obituary

Richard B "Doc" Davis of Albion, Michigan and Bradenton, Florida passed away on Sept. 21, 2025, at his home on Duck Lake surrounded by family. He was born on June 28, 1933, in St. Charles, Michigan to Dr. A.G. and Ethel (Heibein) Davis.
Dick graduated from Albion Public Schools in 1951 and attended Michigan State University.
In 1955 he joined the Michigan National Guard and served out of both the Albion and Jackson units. He was Honorably discharged in 1959.
On June 23, 1957, he married Mary Sue VanGorden in Albion. They were married for 67 wonderful years until her death in 2024.
Dick worked for Vaughn's Men Store, Acme Paint Co, and Sherwin Williams Co. all on main street in Albion until he opened Davis Decorating which he owned for 25 years.
He was a member of the Leisure Hour Club, Life member of the Albion Elks Lodge, Albion Murat Lodge # 14, R.A.M. Chapter. Dick was a 32nd Degree Mason.
While wintering in Bradenton, Florida, Dick would volunteer with Manatee Religious Services, and was a 20-year member of the Pittsburgh Pirates Boosters where he had served on the board as well as president.
Dick and Mary were longstanding members of St. James' Episcopal Church in Albion and Duck Lake Country Club where he had served as president.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, brother The Reverend Kenneth Davis, and infant sister Caroline.
He is survived by a son Richard; daughters Carol McKinney and Barbara (Tom) Stevens all of Bradenton, Florida along with grandchildren, Derek (Andrea) McKinney and their daughter Ashley; Matthew McKinney and his daughter Desirae; Lauren (Tim) Tanner and their daughter Madelynn; Christopher (Gina) Sullivan and their children Zachary, Briana and Austin; Andrew Stevens and his children Andrew and Cora; Courtney (Randy) Betz and their children Brayden, Brooklynn and Delaney; Blake (Larissa) Sullivan and their children Brexton and Lennox.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A combined service for Dick and Mary will be scheduled at a later date. They will be interred together in the Columbarium at St. James' Episcopal Church in Albion.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James' Episcopal Church, 119 W. Erie Street, Albion, MI. 49224.
