Mary Kindig

1951 - 2025

Mary Beth Kindig, born on September 1, 1951, in Bay City, MI, to Russell and Nadine Kindig, who preceded her in death.

Mary who was raised Methodist passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at home with her puppy at her feet. Her wife and partner, Kim Herriman of Lake, MI, and Carol Kindig of Sterling, MI, survive her.

Mary's kindness, love, and compassion was apparent to all who knew her. Mary helped start and worked at the Women's Music Festival in Hart, MI, that ran for 40 years. When people at the festival would refer to her as a "Founding Mother" out of respect, Mary would explain that titles put her on a pedestal and imply somehow, I am more important than you because of that title. Respectfully informing them, "No one, and I do mean, no one, is more important than anyone else!"

Mary held several jobs with the City of Mt. Pleasant; starting as a meter reader she went on to become the first woman to retire from the Wastewater Department. In retirement she was a Journalist for the Clare County Review. Laughing she'd say, "My CMU English Major Degree is finally being used." Loving Harry Potter, the words of Dumbledore, "Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic; capable of both inflicting injury and remedying it." Mary's magic was her way with words. This is who my wife was.

Her sister, her puppy Emma, and her wife and partner of almost 28 years dearly miss her.

Mary's family will receive friends at Clark-Campbell Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a local food bank. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
