Daren "Chewy" Barkie, 55, of Williston, unexpectedly passed away on the early morning of Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A family service will be held at 5 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Upper Missouri Valley Beer Gardens Building E, at 5 p.m.
Daren "Chewy" Barkie was born on October 29, 1968, to Jerry and Pat Barkie in Williston, North Dakota. He was Baptized and Confirmed at First Lutheran Church, in Williston. Chewy was raised and educated in Williston, graduating with the class of 1987. Chewy and Teresa Schroeder had two children together, McKenzie and Paxten.
Chewy worked as a welder with Modern Machine Works for over thirty years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Williston. His passion for hunting and fishing took him all over western North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Chewy and Paxten enjoyed watching the races at the Williston Basin Speedway. Chewy loved spending time with his family, having Paxten and Keaton along on his adventures was a true highlight in his life.
Chewy had a smile and a personality that lit up the room. He was well loved in the community and was always willing to help anyone in need. His friends and family will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his mother, Pat; daughter, McKenzie (Nick DeTienne) and their son, Keaton; son, Paxten; Teresa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Preceding Chewy in death are his father, Jerry Barkie; grandparents, Wally and Rose Hagen; Larry and Eileen Barkie; Teresa's parents, Gary and Mary Schroeder; uncle Rodney Helde; numerous aunts and uncles.
