Albert Stauderman Obituary

Albert Stauderman
02/01/2022
Albert P. Stauderman, Jr. died on February 1, 2022 at the Silverado Memory Care Community in Alexandria, Virginia, after a long illness.
Al was born in 1936 in Teaneck, New Jersey to Albert, Sr. and Dodd Stauderman. He was a child actor in the early days of live television in New York City and a proud Syracuse University ROTC graduate. As an alumnus, Al served on the board of the Dikaia Foundation and on the Syracuse Athletics Committee. He was also a founder of the Newhouse Alumni Association and worked to establish the university's Stephen Crane Lecture.
After college, Al was posted to Orleans, France as a Second Lieutenant with the Army Security Agency. He transitioned to the Army Reserves after his active duty service and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
Al's career as an advertising production executive spanned half a century. As a manager of the Commercial Production Unit at Procter & Gamble, he served as the company's liaison to the advertising agencies and film companies that created TV ads for P&G's consumer products.
In 1982, he moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to Wilton, Connecticut to establish a commercial production office at Richardson Vicks, and in 1985 he co-founded Bird Bonette Stauderman, in Westport, Connecticut, which provides advertising production consulting to corporate clients around the world.
As a lay leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Al served as council president for two congregations and advised both the Ohio Synod and the national church organization.
Al loved sailing and for many years was on the race committee of Sprite Island Yacht Club in Norwalk, Connecticut. He also conducted boat safety checks with the Saugatuck River Power Squadron.
He loved English sportscars and participated in road rallies in France and in the U.S. Tennis was another lifetime pursuit, and the soundtrack of his life featured Dave Brubeck and the Modern Jazz Quartet in heavy rotation. Over the years, he perfected the blended whiskey Manhattan.
He was a long-time member of the Wilton Water Commission, and also served on the town's Inland Wetlands Commission. In his later years, Al worked to locate the lost burial places of enslaved Black people who lived in Wilton during the early Colonial Era and bring these sacred sites to the attention of town officials.
Al is survived by Helen, his wife of 63 years; his children: Elizabeth of Rochester, New York; Sarah (Andrew Robb) of Washington, DC; and Ted (Julia Noonan) of Rockville, Maryland; two grandchildren: Frederic and Katherine; his sister Susan Deckhart of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania; and many family members, friends, and business associates who remember him as a thoughtful, ethical, funny, and kind man.
A memorial service in celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home & Crematory in Alexandria, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Wilton Historical Society (wiltonhistorical.org) or Lutheran World Relief (lwr.org).
