I was a student of Professor Lewis at Brooklyn College in the early 1970s. I have very good memories of his classes which were always interesting and insightful. His classes sparked a great interest in me in Chinese studies. When I graduated I studied Chinese in Taiwan. He was a great professor and I have vivid memories of his classes. He had a gentle and kind demeanor.

I was cleaning my room and checked what I've kept in the boxes; I found the contact info. Professor Lewis gave me when I graduated from Brooklyn College. He was so kind that he wrote the reference letter for my job hunting in Japan. He also supported me and other Japanese students at BC to fund Japan Culture Society. My deepest condolences to his family and beloved ones.
