Thomas M. Gorman, 88, passed away July 8, 2022, near Atlantic Beach FL where he has resided for 12 years. Tom grew up in South Bend IN and attended Indiana University (IU) where he was a competitive swimmer and served as President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. The day he graduated from IU, he was drafted into the US Army and served two years in Italy in Counter Intelligence. He then traveled throughout Europe via motorcycle and began graduate studies in Sweden before returning to IU to complete his MBA degree.
In 1960, Tom moved to New York City where he built a successful corporate career and held executive management roles at companies that included Colgate, Coty, and Germaine Monteil. In his spare time, he was a fine art auctioneer, opera aficionado, and film buff. Tom was also a lifelong runner and in 1981, ran the NYC Marathon.
In 1991, Tom and family moved to Wilton, CT where he made lifelong friends. He was committed to community service which included being a volunteer EMS ambulance driver. When the Katrina and Rita Hurricanes struck, Tom traveled south with the Red Cross to help the displaced victims. He then joined International Habitat for Humanity where he volunteered in remote areas of the world while sending back humorous travelogues to family and friends. During this time, his daughter joined him in Tanzania and together they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Later in Florida, Tom continued his commitment to community service, including the St. Francis Soup Kitchen in Jacksonville. All who know Tom cherished his wit and humor along with his kind heart and devotion to helping others.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dianne, daughter Alexis and son-in-law Seth, and is predeceased by son Gregory in 2016. His sister Rosemary Herzog passed two weeks prior to Tom at age 92 and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and David Maynard, and son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tonya Herzog.
