Charles "Verdeen" Harris Sr.

1936 - 2025

Charles "Verdeen" Harris Sr., 88, of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025, at his residence.
He was born at home on July 28, 1936 in Randolph County, Indiana, to Guthrie & Luella (Cox) Harris and was a lifelong resident of the Lynn Community. Verdeen married the former Sarah I. Steele on November 22, 1956. They met at church when he tapped her on the shoulder to let her know that he was going to marry her one day.
Verdeen, aka "Charlie" to friends and coworkers, was a man of integrity. He valued hard work and was a true jack of all trades. He worked doing different types of things throughout his life but mostly as a welder, fabricator and tool & die machinist. He retired from Lynn Tool Company, formerly Miller Tool, after over 30 years of service. After retirement, he just enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and spending time with his family and his cat, Freddy.
Verdeen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sarah; 2 sons, Charles V. Harris Jr. & wife, Debi, James W. Harris; 1 daughter, Karen S. Oliver & husband, Tom; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Warford and Ruth Ann Wilson; sister-in-law, Carol Harris; and several nieces & nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Duane Harris; 1 granddaughter, 3 great-grandsons and his brother, David Harris.
A service to celebrate Verdeen's life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Pastor Tom Govin will officiate. Interment will follow in Quaker Lynn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, at the funeral home.
