Larry Lee Thomas, 93, of New Castle went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Henry Community Health. He was born on May 7, 1932 in Selma, Indiana to the late Jonathon Ora and Kessie (Eley) Thomas.
Larry was a 1950 graduate of Selma High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea until 1954. He then went on to Taylor University and earned his master's degree in Bible Education. He later went on to Ball State University and earned his master's degree in Education. Larry had taught U.S. History at many schools through the years including Williamsburg, North Eastern and Union High Schools. He had a passion for helping children, whether that was teaching at school or ministering to at church. Larry lived his life to serve the Lord. He was an ordained minister with the Congregational Christian Church and had Pastored many churches through his life including churches in Buffalo, Indiana, Power Station, Carlos and Clear Creek Congregational Church for 17 years. He also started New Life Church. Larry worked with New Creations Church and School where he taught and preached for more than 30 years where he was affectionately referred to as "Mr. T". He had his own radio show for many years on WICU radio station called "Good News" and also led Bible studies at Raintree Square. He will be missed by all as a fun loving, kind-hearted man who loved to joke and spoke sarcasm.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce "Julayne" Thomas; children, Nathan Scott (Diana) Thomas, Larry "Kent" (Christine) Thomas, Cheryl Ann Thomas and Robert Ora (Lynn) Thomas; grandchildren, Kendra Thomas, Stuart (Brittney) Thomas, Gabrielle Thomas, Genevieve (Blake) Lyons, Spencer Thomas, Scott Edward Thomas, Sullivan Thomas, Samantha (Matthew) Marsh, Kayla Thomas, Aaron and Shaina Thomas, Alissa Thomas (Chase Aslinger), Kristin (Nicki) Bosworth, Shean (Destry) Bosworth, Kiana (Tyler) Lennington, Shade Tinch, Keegan Thomas (Brittney Barrett) and Ayden Thomas (Jaylen Evans); 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, adopted children, Shannon Stump and Michael Lees and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 sisters, 6 brothers, great grandsons, Brogan Bosworth and Brigham Smith.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by contingents from the U.S. Army, American Legion & VFW.
