Alice Goodson Obituary

GOODSON WINSTON-SALEM - Surrounded by her loving family, Alice O'Kelley Goodson died on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born on November 26, 1922 in Shreveport, LA to the late Thomas Ferdinand O'Kelley and Alice Herndon Moulton O'Kelley. She attended Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. She is survived by her husband and best friend, William Alexander Goodson, Jr.; and their four children, William Alexander Goodson, III and his wife, Judy, Alice Jane Goodson, Thomas O'Kelley Goodson and his wife, Leesa, all of Winston-Salem, and Elizabeth Goodson Ward of Fuquay Varina. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kathryn Monroe and her husband, Jeff of Concord, NC, John Goodson and his wife, Lisa of Boulder, CO, Hank Ward and his wife, Heather of Holly Springs, NC, Andrew Ward and his fiancee, Jessica Phelps of Wilmington, NC, Will Goodson and his wife, Allison of Winston-Salem, David Goodson of Norfolk, VA and his fiancee, Kelsey Moore of Raleigh, NC; two step-grandchildren, Kelly Eddins of Washington, D.C. and Jason Eddins of St. Louis, MO; five great-grandchildren, Josh Monroe, Hannah Monroe, Tyler Goodson, Jack Goodson and Grady Ward. Alice and Bill were married for 65 wonderful years and during that time, they enjoyed being with their growing family, especially on trips to the Greenbrier. "Nana" as her grandchildren affectionately called her, was a very active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a former member of the Vestry and also served as President of the ECW. She enjoyed her memberships in the Agenda Study Club, Philocalian Book Club and the Dogwood Garden Club. She was also a former member of the Junior League of Winston-Salem. Visitation will be at the home of Tom and Leesa Goodson, 1010 Wellington Rd., on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. A Celebration of her Life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday October 24, at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Altar Guild) 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, The Winston-Salem Foundation, 860 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Bill and Family,

You have our deepest sympathy. We loved our time spent together in Sanibel - watching the sunsets, happy hour, Valentine's Party and just visiting. Alice was a true "Lady" and will be missed by all. Our prayers are with her and all of you.
