A Tribute To Anne Stephens Powers

December 22, 1947 - December 20, 2011

Sometimes I just have to say “goodbye” and when I do I cry.
Not for me for I'm okay, but for the one who had to die.
Of course I know that Jesus is there ready to take their hand
And lead them to their Heavenly Home, there in the Promised Land!

A large crowd gathered at the Church to say “goodbye” to Anne.
A larger crowd was waiting to welcome her to the Promised Land.
Yes, we were sad and somber and yes, many tears were shed,
There were smiles and laughter too as we remembered the life she led!

Sorority Sisters and classmates from the school she loved were there.
Friends from Church and neighbors were there from everywhere.
Anne was loved by everyone they came from far and wide,
Many students and colleagues came to join her family by her side!

Anne followed her Mother as a teacher, footsteps she filled with ease.
She loved her students all and it was them she worked to please.
That she was successful in her mission is certainly no mystery
As evidenced by all those who came to show love and sympathy!

To Chris and Robyn and Taylor we send our deepest love.
Anne is sure to be watching them as she settles in above.
She'll have the help of Jesus and the Saints at her beck and call,
As she is now teaching Angels and she sends love down to us all!

So “goodbye” for now dearest Anne and may you always be
The sweetest, kindest Angel throughout eternity.
We'll live our lives so we can join you when our time has come,
And we can be together again there in our Heavenly Home!

Taylor, Robyn and Chris,
Ours hearts go out to you, your mom was a true Southern Belle - that smile always lit up a room, she loved her work, her students and her family, I know you will miss her, but dwell not on the sorrow of today but rather the precious memories of good times past for this will sustain you in the days ahead!
Rest In Peace Anne - may God hold you in his arms and bless you eternally!
Love,
Keith & Erica Burchette

I remember "pool days" at the Town and Country Pool where we would watch the kids play. I remember Robyn being in Jon's "combination class" with Mrs. Bigger. Mostly I remember Anne's smile and warmth. May you have peace and joy with your memories and warmth to ease your grief. Lisa Kirby

Ms. Powers was my 3rd grade teacher at Oldtown Elementary. She was a great teacher and was always quick to help when any of us didn't quite understand the schoolwork. She was also very patient and always had a smile on her face. Long even after I finished elementary school, I ended up seeing her a few times at Old Town again because my younger brothers both went there also. She would always ask how me and my family were doing. She was such a caring person and she will be missed. R.I.P. Ms. Powers and I love you!!

I was so sorry to hear of Anne's passing, I knew Anne as a tennis buddy even though we usually played on opposite teams. We got to know each other many years ago when we both had children still at home. The last time we played tennis at Tanglewood in late summer Anne seemed happy and we talked about retirement ( since we both worked in the school system), our children and grandchildren. Anne will be missed on and off the court. She was a wonderful lady and to her family please accept my condolences.

We All Have A Date With Jesus For Christmas

My thoughts at this time are of all those lonely friends of mine.
So many dear friends have departed and left their mates behind.
I know they are all in Heaven making birthday plans,
The kind of celebration for Jesus impossible with human hands!

I know that Jesus wants to share His Birthday with us all.
And for all those lonely gals and guys who I know Jesus will call,
If for no other reason than to let each one of them know
That He's taking care of “you know who” and who says “hello!”

I'm so mindful today of all those who find themselves alone.
We must all join the Heavenly Chorus gathered around Jesus' Throne.
As we celebrate around the world the Day of Jesus Birth,
There'll be Christmas trees and Christmas lights all around the earth!

No matter who you are you must have something to be thankful for,
But for so many folks this year the wolf is at their door.
It makes me cry as I think of folks sleeping in the woods,
With a big black plastic bag containing all their worldly goods!

I wish that I could just wave a magic wand and cure all of our ills.
So many cannot get their act together and just depend on pills.
Holiday time is a most terrible time to be caught down and out,
While happy songs and cheerful music tell what it's all about!

In all your hustle and bustle please don't forget the lonely,
Especially all those this year who have lost their only
Major connection to happiness when their mate passed away.
May God Bless each one of you with His Love on this Christmas Day!

As long as I have been at Old Town, Anne's classroom was always the corner room that greeted you every morning as you entered the building. Anne will continue to be that cornerstone that helps to hold us up at Old Town.

We shared the same birthday, and with her sense of humor she would say, "I think I have a few years on you." We would then laugh and comment how it was the shortest day of the year! Our recent birthday saddened me to celebrate it alone, but I will remember her every December 22. Happy Birthday, Anne. I will miss you.

I enjoyed working with Ann at Old Town Elementary. She was a dedicated teacher and enjoyed her students.

December 22, 2011

It was a pleasure to teach alongside Anne for years at Old Town Global Academy. She delighted in helping her students learn, and she was a strong contributor to her colleagues in developing activities that helped all children to perform better in their schoolwork. Her smile and sense of humor enhanced the atmosphere of the entire school and will be missed, but the remembrance of those will continue to live for all who knew and worked with Anne. For her children there can be some comfort in knowing the pride she showed for them and the love she felt for them.

Our trip to the mountains this summer was lovely. I loved to play ad court with Anne. Her forehand was awesome. She was always so proper and I loved to be around her.

Chris, Robin and Taylor,
My heart goes out to you and Anne's brother. So many people will miss her beautiful smile! You all took such good care of her and she loved you more than anything. When we went on our Zeta weekends, we always talked about our children and what they were doing. No matter what, she was so proud of you and Bob.

I can't think of anyone from college to the present who didn't love your mom. She truly cared about everyone she met. The way I will always remember her is in her Angel Flight uniform, her long "flip" and her smile. ( Well, there are some other memories but I won't share them here!)

All of her Zeta friends are here for you any way we can help. If you need a good laugh, give one of us a call!

I treasure the times with her as a flight attendant and on our trip to Tuscany. What a blast! You can't replace friends like her.

Take care, and we will be in touch.

My thoughts and prayers for the Powers family. It was of great pleasure to have worked with Anne for 10yrs. Her dedication and love for her children was amazing. It was a pleasure to translate for her in most of her conferences as she tried to guide a child's life and her great understanding of all their needs. Anne will be dearly missed at Old Town and she will forever be in our hearts. Blessings to the family and our prayers are with you.

My love goes out to Anne's children. She loved you dearly and was very proud of you. Anne would share things about each one of you and how much she loved each one. I can truly say that she was a peacemaker and walked the walk. Anne was one of the greatest teachers I know and she truly cared about not only her students, but all students. She was a great co-worker to those at Old Town School. We all feel blessed to have known and worked with her. May God give her family a peace in knowing that she lived a wonderful life and influenced many. Please find comfort in all the memories of her life. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
