Barbara Wise Obituary

Wise, Barbara Turner

March 17, 1931 - August 20, 2021

Barbara Turner Wise, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on August 20, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was the only child born to the Emery and Mary Turner on March 17, 1931. It was at Cannon High School in Kannapolis, NC, where she led the band wearing the letter "C," that caught the attention of the man she would marry, Jay Wise, and share almost 68 years together. He will tell you he was attracted to her beauty and humbleness. She remained beautiful and humble for her entire life. Barbara continued her studies at the Woman's College in Greensboro, NC, which led to employment at Baptist Hospital and later at Forsyth Technical Community College. She was the scheduling coordinator for the college and retired after 20 years of service. Barbara and Jay were married on September 13, 1953. They made their permanent home in Winston-Salem, raising their family, a son, Steven, and daughters, Sandra and Karen. Once retired, they shared their passion for seeing the world together, travels which took them from the Arctic Circle to the tip end of South America. They often shared the wonderful times with friends. Perhaps what brought Barabra the most joy were her 4 grandchildren. Each one was her favorite. They thought she was perfect in every way. They loved their "Mamma." Barbara was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church for 65 years. She actively participated for as long as her health allowed. When she could no longer attend church, she enjoyed the visits from her church family and the beautiful altar flowers they would share with her from the Sunday morning services. Barbara is survived by her husband, Jay Wise of the home, her son Steven Wise of Kannapolis, NC, her daughter Sandra Suggs and husband, Johnny of Clemmons, NC and daughter Karen Helms and husband Robert, of Huntersville, NC. She is survived by her grandchildren Taylor Stamey and husband Nathan, of Asheville, NC, Jake Helms and wife Sheila, of Charlotte, NC, Kelsey Robinson and husband Garrett, of Pfafftown, NC, and Megan Suggs of Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or the Forsyth Technical Community College, 2100 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. A private entombment will be held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC. There will be a celebration of life service held at Augsburg Lutheran Church at a later date.
