Betty Sessions Obituary

Sessions, Betty Morris

April 21, 1925 - February 1, 2022

Betty Morris Sessions, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on February 1, 2022. Betty was born April 21, 1925, to Lonnie Wright Morris and Bertha Hopkins Morris in Lexington, NC. She had one brother, William Terry Morris. Betty graduated from Lexington High School in 1942 and from Charlotte Business School in 1944. She then moved to Old Salem and began working in the office for Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home on South Main Street. She enjoyed living in Old Salem and was a member of Home Moravian Church. She always cherished the memory of singing in the choir for the Easter and Christmas services. She also sang with the chorus for the Mozart Club's presentation of the Messiah.

She married Max O'Rell Sessions in Lexington, NC in 1950. Betty and Max had four children who all grew up in Winston-Salem. She was a devoted mother and wife and later grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a committed member of Knollwood Baptist Church. She spent countless hours helping at her children's schools as they grew up and attending their sporting events. She was a weekly Meals-on-Wheels servant for many years. Her consistent grace and kindness were always recognized and complimented by those who knew her.

When not taking care of her family or being involved in churches, schools, or other charities, she was a passionate golfer who played weekly in the nine-holers group at Forsyth Country Club. Betty loved to travel. She never turned down an opportunity to explore new places and looked forward to an annual cruise with her husband until his passing. And she loved the arts. But beyond that, she herself was an artist who created beautiful paintings (oil, acrylic, and watercolor) depicting images reflective of her and her children's lives. Many of her beautiful paintings are hung with pride in the homes of her children and grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Max, in 2013, by her oldest son, Max, Jr., in 2019, and by her brother William (Bill) Morris. She is survived by her children, Steve (Anne), Carol Hefner (Larry), and John (Lora); grandchildren, Ben (Cristen), Kate (Amos), Trent, Wil (Paige), David, Nathan, and Lilly; great-grandchildren, Wade, Vivi, Walker, Adelaide, Max, Marshall, and Morris; and her loving nieces and nephews, Herb Miles (Ann), John Miles (Sue), Terry Morris (Debbie), Becky Davis, and Sandra Morris.

The family would like to thank Felix Hairston and his team of caregivers for their compassion and assistance in keeping and assuring Betty's safety and comfort throughout the final chapter of her life, especially Carolyn, Mariah, and Karolyne, who cared for Betty the longest.

There will be a graveside service at 2:30 pm at Forsyth Memorial Park on Saturday, February 5 followed by visitation at the home of John Sessions, 349 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Knollwood Church (330 Knollwood St., Winston-Salem, NC 27104) or Home Moravian Church (529 Church St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101).
