Charles Keiger Obituary
April 24, 1929 - March 23, 2025
Charles Francis "Charlie" Keiger died at age 95 on March 23, 2025 in the comfort of his home in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Charlie was born in Old Town, North Carolina on April 24, 1929, the middle son of Joseph Lee Keiger, Sr. and Mamie Spainhour Keiger.
Charlie is survived by his devoted friend and companion, Kunanya Jaisuda, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, who was his primary caregiver later in his life, and for whom his family is most grateful.
Charlie is also survived by his son Charles F. "Chip" Keiger, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Brenda S. Bronk, and his son John A. Keiger and daughter-in-law, Mary Hollis Keiger, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Keiger Mertz, and his siblings, Marjorie Keiger Felmet, J. Lee Keiger, Jr., and R. Kason Keiger.
He is also survived by granddaughters Julia Vo of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Anna Lee Keiger, of Buffalo, New York, and great-grandsons Ryder Vo and Micah Vo.
Charlie graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended N.C. State College and Wake Forest College. He was Vice-President of Old Town Telephone Co. Inc. and retired in 1972.
Charlie loved to sing in his unmistakable tenor voice, enjoyed playing golf and was an accomplished woodworker, specializing in the fabrication and assembly of wooden tall-masted sailing ship models. He loved the water, living for many years on a 56-foot 1956 Chris-Craft Constellation, the "La Grande Dame."
Most of all he adored cruising the Caribbean with friends and family on many of the ships operated by Royal Caribbean, his favorite.

I just wanted to clarify my previous note. My mom's father, Charles Wickom Spainhour, was Aunt Mamie Spainhour's older brother, making your dad and my mom first cousins. Sorry for the earlier confusion. Take care, Greg Tuttle

Hi Chip,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your dad, my mom Rebecca Spainhour Tuttle's first cousin through her dad, Charles Wickom Spainhour her older brother. He was next to the last of that generation. My mom died on 12/20/23 at age 98. Only her younger sister, Bonnie, age 94, remains. Bonnie's oldest daughter is Marsha Vogler, class of 1971 at Mt. Tabor. My younger brother, Glenn, and my wife, Becky Barr, 1970 class at North, will keep you and your family in our prayers. Greg Tuttle
