STATESVILLE - Cora Inez Staton Martin, 87, of The Gardens of Statesville and formerly of East Lackey Farm Road, Stony Point, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at The Gardens of Statesville. She was born in Union County on June 3, 1918, daughter of Hezekiah Staton and Rosa Staton. Mrs. Martin was a Realtor, housewife, member of the Eastern Star and received a 50-year service pin, member of United Methodist Women, member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and a member of VFW Women's Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Martin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Diane Johnson; son-in-law, Bob Helton; two brothers, Nev and Ben Staton; three sisters, Ruth Carpenter, Virginia Attaway and Rose Osborne; two half brothers; and four half sisters. She is survived by a son, C.B. Martin Jr.,, and wife Vickie of Charlotte; two daughters, Winfred Martin Helton of Charlotte and Connie Martin Johnson and husband Gurney of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Eric Lawrence and wife Dr. Linda Lawrence, Christine Bannerman and husband John, Billy Johnson and wife Marjorie, Amanda Maer and husband Damon and Michael Johnson and wife Janet; two stepgrandsons, Brian Spears and wife Mary and Brent Spears and wife Kristie; a great-grandson, Charlie Lawrence; and five great-granddaughters, Sarah Lawrence, Brooke Spears, Cora Maer, Emily Bannerman and Gracie Spears. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Pisgah United Methodist Church. The Rev. Garry Revels will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening, Nov. 24, at Chapman Funeral Home, and at other times will be at their respective homes.
