David Stetson Turck, 91, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Winston-Salem, NC.
Born on December 26, 1933, David graduated from Hamden High School in 1951 and went on to earn a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1954 to July 1957 before embarking on a distinguished career as a Senior Electrical Engineer. His work often supported Aerospace and Department of Defense projects, where his ability to explain complex systems in simple terms left a lasting impression on colleagues and peers.
On October 3, 1970, David married Meredith Diane Smith. They shared a devoted partnership until her passing in March 2006. David was a longtime member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, where he found spiritual community and connection.
He is survived by his son Jeff W.D. Turck and daughter Amy E. Turck (Leyshon), along with three grandsons-Braden J. Turck (17), Nathan M. Turck (15), and Dylan N. Turck (14)-through Jeff and his wife Julie. Affectionately known as "G'dad," David cherished his role as a grandfather and took great joy in watching his grandsons grow.
David had a quiet and thoughtful nature but enjoyed the company of others. He loved gardening, traveling, and tackling home improvement projects. In earlier years, he found joy in sailing-selling his sailboat to help purchase the family home was a testament to his commitment to loved ones.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunny Side Ministries (

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
