Dean Maples Carlyle
May 27, 1935 - Oct 27, 2025
Dean Marie Maples Carlyle, 90 of Winston-Salem, N.C., went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday October 27, 2025. She was born on May 27, 1935, in Moore County, to the deceased Carlie Maples and Elizabeth Maples. Preceding her in death was her husband of 49 years, Reverend Loyd Gray Carlyle of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her brothers and sister whom she loved dearly, Charles Maples, Phil Maples, Ronnie Maples, Geneva Maples. Dean leaves "Cherished" memories to her children, Greg Carlyle (Edie), Sylvia Carlyle McMahon (Mark), Terry Carlyle, Donna Carlyle Hutchins (Greg and daughter, Heather), Scott Carlyle (Lisa), Loyd Carlyle. Dean was known as Mommie Dean, and Nana to her Precious grandchildren, Kristin Spillman (Zach), Chandler Carlyle (Jessica), Callie Carlyle, Connor Carlyle; as well as her great-grandchildren, Raelynn Spillman, Wiley Spillman, Chloe May Carlyle, Coral Carlyle. They were her "Pride and Joy"! Dean had many Special nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Dean always loved time spent with her immediate family as well as extended family, her church family and friends. Even though she had a busy life as a Minister's wife of 40-plus years, she never missed cheering on her sons at their football, or baseball games or, shopping with her daughters. She was a proud mother. Dean also loved gardening; she loved to watch her hummingbirds, and her favorite were Red Birds. She looked forward to trips to the Coast with her family, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. One of Dean's favorite hobbies was cooking and baking. She was always known as one of the best Southern cooks, and she always made sure that all visitors in her home were fed. Dean's children's friends loved her and enjoyed many wonderful meals at her table. Dean loved the holidays, especially Christmas and she always served meals fit for a King to her family.
Dean will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we all take comfort in knowing she is in the arms of Christ whom she believed in fervently. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was sad when the time came that she was unable to attend church; however, her family is very grateful to the former Pastor, Reverend Tim Wolfe and immediate Pastor, Reverend Tres Ward, as well as the Women's Group who have continued to love and support her by visiting her regularly, bringing her sweet gifts, sweet hugs and most of all for always remembering her in Prayer.
The family would like to express a Special "Thank You" to the staff at Southfork Senior Living Facility for all of the Compassion, Love and assistance that was given to Dean over the past several years. Thanks to the great Doctors and Staff at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Millennium Event Center, 101 W 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
