Dennis Welborn Obituary
June 2, 1956 - February 2, 2021
Dennis Welborn passed away on February 2, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center, due to complications of COVID-19. Dennis was born on June 2, 1956 to the late Ralph and Beatrice Brooks Welborn. He was of the Baptist faith. Dennis loved spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and siblings. He was a hard worker and a great carpenter. In his 45 years at RJ Reynolds, he made many friends who became family. Dennis loved his job and was loved by many. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jennifer (Katie) Welborn, Jessica Welborn (fiancé Gina); grandchildren, Ila Welborn, Jaxon Welborn; girlfriend, Ann Snyder; sister, Marquita (Rex) Gregory; brother, David Welborn; special friend like a brother, Donal (Mary) Smith; niece, Renee (Shane) Cheek; nephew, Derek Gregory; great-niece, Jada Cheek; great-nephews, Bryson Gregory, Connor Gregory, Tanner Cheek. The family is eternally grateful for the loving care given to Mr. Welborn from Forsyth Medical Center and the Second Floor ICU Staff, and First Floor Neuro Critical Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Dennyville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2713 Old Highway 60, Ronda, NC 28670. Dennis will be available for public viewing at Gentry Funeral Service of Jonesville on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM and on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The funeral service will be at Dennyville Baptist Church at 2 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021, officiated by Rev. Tommy Dunaway and Rev. Don Ball. I had the pleasure to work with Dennis at RJR for many years. We were the most senior employees left on the cigarette production floor. Dennis had a way of making work fun and if you have ever worked with Dennis, you know what I am talking about. Dennis gave a big part of his life to the company by being there every hour he was needed. Dennis’ passing is a great loss for RJR but even a much greater loss to his coworkers and friends and family who loved him.

Worked with Dennis at Tobaccoville and he always kept me and everyone around in stitches. Just thinking about some of our jokes brings a smile to my face. One of my good friends in Tobaccoville. The first time Dennis and I met, I was coming back from break and he says go take another break. I said I just came back, he said I know but go take you another 30 minutes. Ever since that day we have been good friends...even became close enough to have some personal conversations. So knowledgeable about his job but more then that having the ability to communicate with others, really anyone and then make you laugh. I came back to Tobaccoville to handle some business but I go to Unit 2 and speak to Dennis. The first thing he says, if you are not coming back to Packing, then don't speak to me....then we laughed and laughed. I love and miss my friend Dennis Welborn.

I am still in shock that Dennis is gone. I think I was 11 or 12 when I first met him and in a turn of events we were able to spend a few years working together.
