Dorothy Sharon Harned

HARNED BERMUDA RUN, NC - Dorothy Sharon Harned Aug. 10, 1938 - Feb. 19, 2012 Sharon Harned passed away peacefully Sunday morning in the presence of family. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ben Harned, Jr., and parents, Gilbert and Ruth Schnapf. Sharon is survived by Stanley Troyer of Winston-Salem, NC; her daughter Cassie Troyer (Bermuda Run, NC); and sons Douglas Troyer (Hingham, MA) and Dr. Michael Troyer (Cincinnati, Ohio). She will continue to be "Grandma Mimi" and a watchful and loving angel of our children: Mason, Jack, Sophia, Benjamin, William, and Sam. Sharon was a dedicated and caring nurse (R.N.) for almost 50 years, serving at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, IN, Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, and other health centers and voluntary help-lines in the Winston-Salem area. She was a beloved and active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Evansville, IN and Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She was a volunteer at the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center, Old Salem, and Bok Tower Sanctuary (in Lake Wales, FL). She was a three-time cancer survivor. She loved dogs and long walks; nature, gardening and flowers; painting, classical music and other creative arts; and collecting antiques. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Augsburg Lutheran Church, Winston-Salem, NC, with the Rev. Dr. Ronald A. Rinn officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium Garden at the Church.
