My son was in Mr. Gilliam's class this year. He really enjoyed him for the short time he was his teacher. The class hasn't been the same since he left but it was a pleasure to have such a nice influential black male role model for him to meet. I know he will not ever forget Mr. Gilliam.

Our son Noah was in Mr.G's 1st grade class,even though he had to leave for part of the year,Noah as well as the rest of the class could not wait for him to come back!Noah could not wait every year to go see him at open house!!What a impact he made in our childs life!He will be truly missed!We are praying for you and your family!!!The Sechrist's

I grew up with Douglas. He was truly a genuine person that personified the definition of perseverance. He remained steadfast, upright, and circumspect until the end. To take a line from the poem "Invictus", he never winced nor cried aloud. Doug, I love you my brother and will miss your presence on this journey we call life.

I didn't know Douglas very well, but he seemed to be a humble and quiet person. He seemed to have a good spirit about him. I am sorry for the Gilliam family, because they have lost someone so precious to them. He will be forever remembered here on earth. RIP in Douglas you are with the Father now, forever safe, forever young!

I am so sorry to hear Douglas passing. I went to school with him in Bertie County. I also worked with Douglas at a local video store at home in Windsor,NC for years while we were in college. I am overcome with grief because I knew you so well and I know you family has loss a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Mr. Gilliam was a teacher at Kimberly Park when my kids attended there he always had a smile on his face. I saw Mrs. Crossmen in Walmart over the summer she told me he was sick. He is an angel now, Rest In Peace no more pain!!!!

I worked with Mr. Gilliam at Kimberley Park for several years. He was a good man, a man that loved his family and had a special place in his heart for for the students. Mr. Gilliam will be missed. God loves and care and he want put no more on us than we can bear. God will give you the strengh to make it keep your hands in Gods hands. Lean on him and he will carry you through, trust him because he cares for you. I will miss him but I know he is in good hands with the master. Love Vanessa Norman

i was blessed to have mr gilliam and jerry cross my path. the impact they made in my life will never be forgotten. the smile they both brought to my life week after week i will always count as wonderful memories. i wish gerry that i could be there for you now. and mr gilliam, i will think of you every dallas game and know that you are cheering on with me. love and prayers to you and your family.

Jerri I am so very sorry for your loss. We've lost touch over the years but if its one thing I do remember is when the two of you met and married and that You LOVED Douglas and he was totally devoted to you...I hope you can find comfort in the time you two shared together...and I pray you and your son find peace...I love you so much and my heart just aches for you...May God keep you and you are forever in my prayers...

You are in our thoughts and prayers. To look at Mr.Gilliam walking the halls at Kernersville you would have never thought he was sick. He always had a huge smile on his face and spoke to everyone. He had such a great love for life.Your spirit will live in the hallways of KES always. You will be missed dearly.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I was saddened to hear of Doug's passing. Doug touched the lives of many boys and girls while a teacher at Moore School. Doug's football mini course was the most popular course every year he taught at Moore! He will certainly be missed.

My daughter Sydney was a student of Mr. Gilliam's in the 2005/06 school year at Kernersville Elementary. She always loved being in his class and loved him as well. I worked with Mr. Gilliam at Kimberly Park Elementary and he was a wonderful person. He loved his family and he loved his students. Another angel taken early but he deposited so much love and wisdom during his existence. My prayers are with the family, especially Mrs. Gilliam and their son.
