SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Like an eagle soaring home to his nest, Edward Harold Hatfield recently soared to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Eddie was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Nov. 9, 1957, to George James Hatfield Sr. and Edith Reagan Hatfield. An avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed camping and hiking. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church and received the Eagle Scout award from Troop 942. In 1982, he graduated from Wingate College, where he was the manager for the men's soccer team. He spent his career in management working for Wachovia Bank and Dancy Construction Co. Eddie was a loving and caring man who volunteered with Samaritan Ministries. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother; a son, E. Garrett Hatfield; a brother, Jim, and wife Susan; and a sister, Judy Trexler, and husband Ikey. Also surviving are "Aunt Lou" and "Uncle Bud"; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and special friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, May 20, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Dr. Guy Hipp officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Calvary Baptist Church Boy Scout Troop 942. "As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, from this time on and forevermore." - Psalms 125:2.

To Garrett,
I worked with your dad at Wachovia back in the 90's and I remember he always talked about you and how special you were in his life. He would show me pictures of you and just beam with pride.
Your dad was a very good man with a kind, loving heart. Having to let go of someone as special as your dad hurts a lot but his spirit and what he taught you will stay with you forever. Everything will be OK again and I will be praying that God will ease the pain in your heart and make it easier for you to handle. Your dad is celebrating his new life in heaven with God and you should have joy in your heart knowing that he is at peace and happy.
Much love to you,
Debbie Johnson

Edith,
I just saw in the Journal about Eddie. I am so very sorry and shocked to learn of his passing at such a young age. It hits so close to home, literally, since we were neighbors and grew up together.
Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
