Mr. Elmer "Lee" Carpenter, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 19, 2024. He was born on July 10, 1940, in Avery County, NC, to Elmer and Pearl Carpenter. Lee was in Route Sales for many years for Coca Cola, Wise Potato Chips, and Frito Lay before "retiring" to work for Penske shuttling trucks for the last 21 years. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, his church, and southern gospel music. He was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church where he was in the choir as well as the Men's Chorus. He enjoyed reading and never met a stranger. Lee was an incredible man who enjoyed life and talking with people. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be so missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Carpenter.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Shelby Jean Carpenter; his son, Jeff Carpenter (wife, Jennifer); nine grandchildren, Josiah Lee, Trinity Grace, Justice Lee, Charity Truth, Jeremiah Lee, Unity Faith, Joshua Lee, Jacob Lee, and Eternity Hope; and two brothers, Ralph Carpenter (wife, Janet) and Emerson Carpenter (wife, Debbie).
A funeral service for Lee will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Coppley and Samantha Wesley officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JoyFM.org. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
