NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Evie Chambers Combs, 103, of North Wilkesboro, widow of William Lester Combs, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Lewis Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Rhoades, the Rev. Amos Combs and the Rev. Marvin Blackburn officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Combs was born in Wilkes County, Aug. 27, 1903, to Charlie and Sarah Somers Chambers. She was a member of Lewis Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Combs; a son, Charlie Chambers; three sisters, Minnie Chambers, Doll Combs and Rebecca Goforth; and a brother, Noah Chambers. Mrs. Combs is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Faw of Wilkesboro and Ellen Furches and husband, Robert Bruce, of Mocksville; three sons, the Rev. Amos Combs and wife, Iris, of Millers Creek, Jimmy Combs and wife, Gayle, of Wilkesboro, Robert Buck Combs and wife, Glenda, of Roaring River; a beloved son-in-law, Sherrill Faw; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Combs, Joey Combs, Chuck Combs, Monty Combs, Jeff Faw, Rick Penland and David Combs. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Lewis Baptist Church, 2190 Salisbury Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or to Hospice of Wilkes, 1907 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

My grandmother was Eva Coleman from Wilkesboro. She and Evie were cousins. I am getting information that I can find about my relatives. Do get in touch some time to catch up with long lost family.
