Danbury- George Thomas Mabe, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in Hard Bank Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 1, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends at George's home.

A native of Stokes County, George was born on September 4, 1941, to the late James Handy Mabe and Helen Keller Lawson Mabe. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. After completing his military service, he worked as a mechanic and welder, helping many in the Lawsonville area. He then joined Bill Hanks Lumber Company, there, he worked as a mechanic and welder, dedicating himself to maintaining and repairing the equipment essential to the company's operations. George was always on call, ready to respond whenever the mill's whistle blew. He later retired to pursue his true passion-farming-and established Northern Stokes Farms, where he raised tobacco, grain, and beef cattle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Sidney Mabe, and son-in-law Dean Johnson.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara S. Mabe, his daughters, Elizabeth M. Johnson of Walnut Cove, Amanda M. Tilley (Timmy) of Lawsonville; grandchildren, Karly Johnson Bullins (Colby), McKenzie Tilley Hairston (Bam), Abby Tilley (Ryan), and Ethan Tilley; great-grandchild, Maliyah Tilley.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the compassionate care provided to our father during his time there.

We are also deeply appreciative of everyone who reached out-either by calling, sending texts, or visiting. Each gesture of support helped ease the burden of these difficult days and reminded us of the strength and warmth of our community.
