Gladys Dalton Obituary

DALTON WINSTON-SALEM Gladys Lynch Dalton Jan. 27, 1919 - April 9, 2012 Gladys Lynch Dalton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 9, 2012 at her residence in Winston-Salem. Gladys was born on January 27, 1919 in Hardin County, Iowa to Charlie L. and Harriet Toddy Lynch where she lived until she was three years old before moving to Winston-Salem. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1935. Gladys worked as a secretary for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the Charlotte office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and then with John Gold, the Police Chief of Winston-Salem. She also worked part-time for Wilbur Smith & Associates, then later again for John Gold when he became City Manager. Gladys was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church and former member of the Ladies Slipper Garden Club and Pinebrook Country Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William N. Dalton, Jr., her parents, a brother, James Robert Lynch, a nephew, James Robert Lynch, Jr. and a special niece, Shirley Cocklereece. She is survived by her son, William N. Dalton, III and wife, Linda of Avon, Indiana; and one grandson, Andy Dalton of Santa Cruz, California. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Knollwood Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Doctor Virginia Britt. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Gladys wanted her caregivers: JoAnn, Teresa, Beverly, Beth, Carol, Tamra, Dawn, and Talesha to know how grateful she was to them for her to be able to remain in her home.
