McGUIRE WINSTON-SALEM - Hazel Grubbs McGuire, wife of Edwin Brooks McGuire, died peacefully on August 23, 2010 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was 90 years old. Mrs. McGuire was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished and cared for her family. During her tenure with the Home Demonstration Club, she was President of both the Forsyth County Chapter as well as the North Carolina State Chapter. Mrs. McGuire was also a life-long member of the Providence Moravian Church. Born March 29, 1920 to Cuma and Brown Grubbs, she was preceded in death by four sisters; a brother; and son-in-law, Len Sale. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Elaine "Putter" Caudle and husband, Don Caudle; grandchildren, Julia Forrester, Sharon Nicholson and husband, John, Pam Cavenaugh and husband, Ken; great-grandchildren, Edwin and Stratford Forrester, Stephen and Harrison Terpak and Catherine, Meredith and William Cavenaugh; step-grandchildren, Angela C. Gardner and husband, David, Melanie C. Love and husband, Todd, and Chris Caudle; and nine step-great grandchildren: Rachel, Rebekah, Josh and Mark Gardner, Collin, Bryce, and Dane Love, and Michael, Anna and Claire Nicholson. Her family wishes to say a special thanks to Ms. Penny Louya for the loving care that she provided. The Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at Salem Funeral Home Main Street Chapel with the Rev. Akron Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Providence Moravian Church, 929 Old Hollow Road, W-S, NC 27105. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. What a lovely lady and I wish I could have known her better. Having taught her grandchildren I can see why they were so special. There are blessings in all things however those blessings are not always easily seen. My thoughts are with each of you.
