Jackie Van Tuttle, 85, of Walnut Cove, NC, died Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital due to a sudden illness. Jackie was born June 1, 1936, to Lottie Sue Tuttle and Charles Decatur Tuttle. He was the last surviving and youngest of eight children: Muriel Dodson (Odell), Flora Landreth (Dennis), Charles T. Tuttle (Margie), Mary Sue "Tee" Tuttle, Robert "Blane" Tuttle (Barbara Ann), Ben Tuttle, Bobby Lee Tuttle (Ethel). He had several nieces and nephews. Jackie married Sue Tuttle on January 12, 1962, in Danbury, NC. Jackie graduated from Walnut Cove High School in 1954, where he lettered in football and was voted Most Likely to Succeed and Best Looking. Jackie retired from R.J. Reynolds after 32 years of employment. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in both Madison, Wisconsin, and Greenland. Jackie was a lifelong resident of Walnut Cove. He was a past Lions Club Member, volunteer for multiple charitable organizations, coached little league baseball, and supported First Christian Church of Walnut Cove. Jackie was an avid golfer, winning several senior golf tournaments and playing with his golf buddies at least twice a week. A true sports enthusiast, he was a devout Carolina fan with intense rivalry with his brothers Bob and Ben (Dukies). He loved to garden and was especially proud of his potatoes and tomatoes. Jackie shared his bounty of produce around Walnut Cove and was known for his generosity. Jackie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Sue Rierson Tuttle of the home; two sons, Jerry Tuttle (Eric Stanley) of Lunenburg County, VA, and Kevin Tuttle (Christy) of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Dr. Merritt Tuttle (Dr. Michael Pierro) of Wauwatosa, WI, Walter Tuttle (Katie) of Raleigh, Spencer Tuttle (Kendell) of Raleigh, Jack Tuttle of Raleigh, and Jesse Tuttle of Winston-Salem; two great-grandchildren, Collins Tuttle and Hampton Tuttle of Raleigh. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church of Walnut Cove Cemetery, 1063 N. Main St., Walnut Cove. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
