Jane Schatzman Obituary

SCHATZMAN Jane Micol Schatzman, 62, was born in Valdese to Mildred and Victor Micol. On Friday, June 6, 2008, Jane suffered a heart attack and gently passed away at her home in Winston-Salem. She was a graduate of Valdese High School and Surry County Community College. She entertained thousands during her 20-year career as a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines starting in 1982 and continuing with US Airways until her retirement in 2002. She was a renowned cook who loved to entertain. Her flair and panache are legendary. Her recipes for Filet Mignon and Pears En Croute were featured in Southern Living. She loved her family and most of all her husband, Bill, of 23 years. She was his steadfast anchor, life' s joy and constant reminder of the importance of humility. Her friends and family loved her and will miss her irrepressible spirit, lightening quick wit, comfortable elegance and chicken pie. She is survived by her husband, William T. Schatzman; brothers Larry Micol of Lexington, S.C., and Col. Victor Micol of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters Jami Simpson of Southport and Brandy Simpson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and stepchildren William Schatzman of Winston-Salem and Susan Schatzman of Charlotte. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry St., in Winston-Salem, with Chaplain Glenn Davis and the Rev. Marion Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Salem Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.salemfh.com.

Sheriff,
I knew your wife from Forsyth County Rep. Women. Although I am no longer a member, I still volunteered to call the ladies, to remind them of functions. Your wife was on my call list. She was a friendly person whom I enjoyed talking to.

I can share with you my favorite verse, "The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God will not protect you." I hope you find some comfort in that saying.

Speaking of comforting thoughts, it is evident that your wife had many friends who loved her. We all think of you and keep you in our prayers.

Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
I always so admired Jane and looked up to her. When I was a little girl growing up beside and across from the Micols, I wanted to be just like Jane when I grew up. I still miss Mildred and Vic and think of your family often.

Bill, Vic & Larry, I enjoyed my visit to the old Micol home place in Valdese a few years ago. Went there to visit Vic (it was our 50th Valdese High School reunion weekend). Larry and Jane were. It was the first time I had seen Jane since our school days, and we had a lot of catching up to do. Now I look back and highly value that time that we enjoyed. We send our sincere condolences to all the family.
