Jere Zollicoffer Obituary

Jere Perry Zollicoffer II died on August 26, 2025 in his home at Homestead Hills in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on May 14, 1941 in Henderson, NC to John HIllard Zollicoffer and Helen Summers Zollicoffer. He is survived by his three sons, Jay Eric, and Marc; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Beer; daughter-in-law, Reidun Zollicoffer; two grandchildren, Finn and Thea; and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Martha Zollicoffer of Henderson NC. His sister Alice Montcastle Zollicoffer predeceased him. Jere attended Georgia Tech University in Atlanta where he met Judy Hawley who attended Agnes Scott College. They married on December 21, 1962 in St Simons Island GA. Jere and Judy were married for 56 years until her death in 2018.
Jere was an Electrical Engineer and he worked for Duke Energy for 51 years. He started his career and his life with Judy in Gastonia NC where they lived for 21 years until he transferred to Winston-Salem in 1985. Jere had a life long passion for Lionel trains culminating in a large set that took up an entire room in his home. For 15 years, Jere volunteered building sets for the Little Theatre of Winston-Salem. After Judy's death in 2018, Jere enjoyed playing Bridge, having dinner with his friends at Homestead Hills, and visits from his children and grandchildren.

I'm very sorry to hear of Jere's passing. My condolences to his family and friends. I work with NCDOT and was privileged to work with Jere on a number of projects for over 20 years. He taught me a lot.
