Johanne Powell Obituary
September 7, 1935 - December 4, 2022
Johanne Louise Phillips Powell, Advance, NC, formerly of Mars Hill, NC, passed away peacefully at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Sunday, December, 4, 2022. Johanne was married to Dr. Charles Harris Powell for 60 years before his passing in 2015.
Johanne was a true beacon of light to all she encountered. She loved sharing her infectious smile and laughter with those whom she touched each day. Her positive attitude inspired many; her love for family was her true joy as she was consistently present and selfless in her love even during her battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to all around. Johanne loved Clemmons United Methodist Church and her community of friends. She was so appreciative of all the prayers, cards, hugs, and visits!
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Hess MD (Mark) of Advance, NC; son, Jeffrey Scott Powell (Allison) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Jaclyn Hess Spagnola, Hannah Hess Lackey, Justin Hess, Reid Powell, and Layton Powell; and great-grandchildren, "the munchkins," Clara Spagnola, Charles Lackey, Alyse Lackey, and James Lackey.
A celebration of her life will be held at Clemmons United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 10, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends after the ceremony. A private burial will be held at a later date at West Memorial Garden, Weaverville, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church, Clemmons, NC, or the Clemmons Food Pantry, Clemmons, NC.
